hi Curtis,
You tube doesn't want us to download. That is why you don't find a download command. There are ways to get around it though.
First, I want you to read this post.
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=126523

However, since you wanted it simplified I will attempt to explain it more piece by piece.
Download and install the program called Easy Video Downloader (as per the other thread)

Once it is installed, you are ready to go.
Open youtube and find the video you want to download.
Highlight the URL in the top line Where it says "Http" and all that jargon.
Right click on the highlighted area and you will be given the choice to "Copy". Do so by left clicking on Copy.

Ok now you have that Url in your computer somewhere.

With your Easy Video opened, you will see a blank line where it says Video's Url. Right click in this area and you will be given one choice, which is Paste.

Paste in the Url with your left mouse button.

Now look further down in Easy Video screen and you will see a line that says Save As: The Save as should already be .avi (High Quality). Easy Video will automatically convert the video to .avi format which enables your computer to read it.

Now, look at the line above the Save as line. It says Save To: And the default(what is already written there) is something like this:
C:\Documents and Settings\Bent R\My Documents
It will be a bit different on your computer, but he main thing is the last part where it says My documents.
If you want the video to go there, fine. If not, then you have to click on Browse to command Easy Video to put it in the folder of your choice.

Once that is done, go down and click on Start in the bottom Right hand corner. Bingo, your vid is downloading as you can see on the "progress bar".

I guess I find it hard to explain things simply, sorry. But here it is broken down into a few easy steps:
1. Download and install Easy Video Downloader.
2. In the Youtube screen in your browser, highlight and copy the youtube Url.
3 In the Easy Video screen, Paste the Url into "Video's Url"

4 Direct Easy Vid to put it in the folder of your choice.

5.Click on Start.

Then, when you want to play the video, you have to find the folder with the video in it and click on it. Windows Media should open and play it.

If this doesn't happen, get back to me and I will show you a way to get around it.

Good luck!
Bent

If you download Video Piggy and pay $24.95 for it
you can download youtube.
I go through Audacity ( A free download )
You may not have to. There may be another program
But these free you tube downloaders I have not been
successful with.

True, Andy. But the thing is , codecs are hard to grasp the meaning of. I still haven't caught on to them.
It is a lot easier just to stay on top with the latest Easy Video Downloader.
Also, I have found that if your Windows Media Player will not play the youtube vids, There is a player called VLC. Check it out.

Youtube are Flash Video's.. If you want to play them without downloading other programs to convert them you need a FLV player

I think I've mentioned this before. I have real player. Above every video theres a block that asks if you want to download the video. Clicking on it downloads the video to real player no muss,no fuss and I can watch it anytime.
