Wow...the E9 and C6 laid out yielded hundreds of requests for each...inspires me to run out a Universal laid out. Problem is, which Universal to do.
I am inclined to leave the Bb6/Eb9 for M Anderson...same for the E9/C6 and Excel...also for Joe Wright's approach.
Could do the Bill Stafford E9/B6 14 string with lock...This is essentially the 12 string E9/B6 with a redundant high G#, and a low E on the bottom, so the 12 string E9/B6 folk can just ignore the top and bottom strings, and relabel the pedals and levers to suit their setup.
Could do the Sierra edition of E9/B6.
Could do the JN Uni.
Any opinions/preferences? |

Hi Ed.....fantastic job on the 2 E9th items you sent me...much appreciated 
If you`re going to do a Universal E9/B6 chart may I suggest the Newman settings ? this is where I am heading hopefully this year and I think many other `tyros` would be happy with that too. or maybe the set-up used in the Carter site as this uses 5 knees levers...(standard on a Carter ) and 7 pedals.
just my 0.02 cents worth mon ami.
As said, great work on the previous charts and looking forward to a Universal one from you

I also vote for the Newman E9/B6 layout. Ed, I was going to email you for the C6 layout, but now I think I'll wait for the uni. Also, thanks for all the work you're doing. It is very much appreciated.

I use the Jeff Newman,,straight out of the box,,,I think it will become the "standard",,plus,,it would be a good tribute to Jeff.

The JN 12 string E9/B6 uni seems to come in two basic flavors (setups) = Emmons and Day. The difference is in the pedal/lever locations...the changes are about the same.
Because the format of what I do is "electronic workbook", you can rename the pedals and levers to suit...just do it on all sheets and the chord lists, chord locations sheets will be "adjusted".
One common mod is to move pedal 7 to a lever...just change the labels in the charts.
The same goes for the Previous E9 and C6 sends.
The difference between Bill Staffords setup and JN's is 14 vs. 12, B6 lock vs. no lock, Emmons vs. Day, and P7 moved to a lever.
The string count can be 0 to 13 for Bill's...this would put JN's on 1 thru 12 and those 12 strings would match = be the same notes.
If you don't use the lock, and the top and bottom strings on Bill's, you have the 12 string E9/B6...the lock just adds a convenience for those that think E9 and C6.
For Emmons Vs.Day, and/or the pedal to lever switch(es), just change the labels on the charts.
Whether or not the lock is used, there are certain changes that are common to an "E9" structure, and certain that are common to the "B6"("C6") structure. The BS, JN, Sierra differences are mostly a matter of labels as opposed to function.
One of my 14s is Emmons setup, with the top strings in the B6(C6) order, With a C# where the D3 is usually found on E9, and a C# for string 12. I have the lock and "P7" to lever mod. I lower the s#8 E to get the D note to eliminate an s2 chord which usually means skip grips (non adjacent common chord intervals (think 1,3,5,7, etc.).
Any one with a nutty setup like mine will have to wait...I think that it may be possible to combine the BS and JN into one workbook. |

I like my Sierra U12 E9/B6 setup with a lock. I can work the B6 much better with the lock. I guess the Sierra just fits me better.
