I just stumbled across an old Emmons Sitar Bar. It's a pretty cool sound. Does anyone know if these are still made? Does Emmons Co. still make them?

My buddy Harley James ground a 1/4" flat spot on a bar, and it sounds awesome on "Waymore's Blues," which we do from time to time when Harley sits in with us.

Yup I use one for about 6-years now.I love the little bugger.I made this one myself out of "Chrome-Steel"...and not only has it a better sound then a chrome plated one but I can drop this one of a high rise and it will leave a dent in the concrete and the bar will not have a scratch on it.

BJS still makes(chrome plated I believe)them on special order.
They are regular steel bars which have a milled of side.
I made one for Chris Brooks once with his name engraved with a laser.
If you get the chance to buy one just do it.You'll love it.Listen to Ralph Mooney on Waylon's albums. He used it a lot back then.

I used one in an unusual way for the introduction of the song "America" from my West Side Story CD. You can hear it here.

What I did was play each note with the sitar bar, with the volume pedal pulled all the way back, a tad before it was supposed to come in, and then kicked in the volume pedal at the appropriate spot, so there is no attack, just the sitar buzz. Furthermore, I repeated the process with a regular bar, so what you hear is a combination of the sitar bar and the regular bar, minus the attacks.

This is all in the background. The melody is played normally.

Sounds good, Mike. Thanks to all for the replies. I'm really liking the sound of this sitar bar!

I bought one from Bobbe last year. Cobra Coil brand.
A good bar in non-sitar use , too

Paul Franklin used a sitar bar on Lee Ann Womack's song "Why They Call It Fallin'.
