This is a custom banjo built by Frank Neat of Russell Cave, KY. It has a flamed maple speed neck with style 3 inlays, sunburst old wood (Showcase Timeless Timber) resonator, Tony Pass Lost Timbre ThinSkirt block rim, Jimmy Cox flange and special tension hoop, Five Star tuners, and Showcase Latigo strap. These are some of the best components available.
Included is a standard Calton case.
The pot assembly is a Style 11, with a prewar hoop. The rim can be cut down to add a standard tone ring.
It also includes a custom replacement flange that allows the banjo to be converted to an open-back. Both styles of bridges (Scorpion and Moon), tailpieces (Presto and No-Knot), heads (Huber-Remo frosted and Renaissance), and nuts (standard and ball-end) are included.
Here it is set up as an open-back (with Waverly instead of No-Knot tailpiece):

I should have mentioned that the Style 11 pot makes this a relatively light banjo, about seven pounds compared to a more typical twelve pounds. I was motivated to get a banjo like this after hearing Craig Smith play his Style 11, which he was using because of back problems.
If you've ever strapped on a Mastertone for a couple of sets you'll know what I'm talking about... |
