I am going to guess that a lot of pedal steelers will never read this. I wouldn't have a year ago! To reiterate, all of these ideas can be directly applied to pedal steel C6th. These include scales, using open strings, bar bends, string stretches and more. Learn these by memory for now and later on they will make more sense to you and you will be able to play many songs on your own as your brain begins to internalize these pockets of notes and the intervals between the strings.
Notice the bend on the 3rd string, taking a 6th note to a dominant 7th. That's a common C6th knee lever and very key to getting some, for example, of Chalker's stuff down.
The bend on the 2nd string to get a 7th chord 3 frets up from the root chord position. That's the C to C# knee lever that is becoming standard on C6th.
Most of pedal steel C6th does not involve pedals. Get a lap steel and noodle on it. You don't even have to spend a fortune on it. you don't even have to plug it in, have a steel seat, a foot volume or an amp to practice!
