Don't you think it would be more benificial to you to come up with your own ideas in the future.
This way you won't need to take the time to try and learn someone else's idea.
I find this to be a problem with many steelers and why they don't progress as they should on steel.
I'm not knocking you as you may need to learn it as is if you are doing cover material in your band.
Best of luck.

Mickey Adams has the how to video on Youtube of the solo. It is very good; as are all of his videos.

If you've loved this Mike Johnson lick, you're sure to adore the others found on his marvelous album issued some 2 years ago. You can get it on his own site at this address: http://www.mikejohnsonproductions.com/Store/Catalog/tabid/237/Default.aspx

He is truly among the greatest right now.

Best to all,

ayp

I'll second what Alain-Yves, said: Mike Johnson's solo CD is one of the best out there.

Has anyone tabbed out "Mirrors" as he plays it on his CD? Tasty and clean, awesome! Super clean production, too.

Not only would i recommend the instrumental cd, but you have got to have the one that Joanie did with her dad now that is one hot solid country cd. the way country is supposed to sound.

Don Sulesky has a point, but I'm not entirely in agreement. There's a world of difference between slavishly learning stuff note for note, and isolating the essence of a clever move and then using it in one's own material. I have been trying to work out the chromatic bit in a Mike Johnson solo in "Beneath Still Waters" because it is clearly a fundamentally useful tool to have.

So for example, I will unashamedly learn how he did it, but make it part of what I do in the same way that so many people's styles are amalgams of "own work" and ideas borrowed from others.

AYP's URL to the Mike Johnson CD doesn't seem to be working. Anyone had any better luck with it?

Has anyone tried this tab? I'm wondering whether it hasn't been a tad simplified, and there seems to be a transcription error or typo in the 3rd line of tab. AFAIK you don't raise the 4th string with the A pedal! Very Happy Just call me Sheldon Cooper, my wife does!

Will -

Tablature is a great tool, and for us that do it, we try to eliminate errors.....however, dagnabbit, sometimes a symbol for incorrect lever or pedal might show up.

For the slight error that you referenced above in 3rd line of tab, maybe use either your Eb lower or E to F raise.

One of those is probably what Ricky intended.

We all benefit by Excellent tabs posted by Ricky Davis.

Well I didn't actually "Tab" this one; It was done by a friend for the "Rebel&Ricky&Jeff Tablature site". I looked it over; but just didn't see that "miss-mark"..ha....
But also another great learning tool when learning from Tab..is when something doesn't look right or sound right; figure out what it actually is and make the correction yourself on your tab sheet and then make a note to your brain just how much you learned all by your self...ah..ha.
