Not nearly soon enough. Is there anything else of this shape and design out there already? And any guesses as to what it might end up costing?
I've actually held a drill over my 30's Gretsch/Regal Angelus but have been unable to bring myself to widen the peg hole for a jack. As a result, my current transducer is stuck to the coverplate and sounds just awful. Feedback has been a big problem with the mic and monitor setup where I play, as well.
This really looks like the answer for those us who don't want to butcher beloved instruments so we can hear them over the drums. And best of all, for under a coupla hundred dollars (I hope), I'll be able to sound exactly like Jerry. A much better deal than the two options I was considering: 1) buying his signature model from beard and 2) actually practicing the thing with every waking hour for the next 30 years. Thanks to Fishman, in advance, for saving me so much time and money.

Since I saw (and heard of course) Jerry Douglas using the prototype a couple of years ago,and talked to one of his sound men about it, I've been waiting for Fishman to "dot the t's and cross the i's" and get this thing released.
I think this is the most significant advance in dobro amplification since they first started putting pickups in the things.

I recently heard both of the Lace reso pickups that Elderly sells ($90, and $150). They both just set at the end of the fingerboard with some double sided tape.
They both sounded pretty good played through one of those little Roland Micro amps. |
