I'm not talking about a CD of different artists, or an ad hoc steel guitarists convention.
What's the highest number of steel guitarists (counting pedal and non-pedal) that have played simultaneously on a commercial recording ? |

What about Jimmie Crawford, Buddy Emmons, Sonny Garrish, Russ Hicks, & John Hughey all playing together on the album "Nashville Bar Association," from 1977? |

I had the pleasure for doing a tour with Vernon back in the 80's , we done a month in Norway where he was very popular... Before every song he would say "Ye ready " |

Don't remember the name of the album but there was a picture of the union payslip on the cover, had the full album was one continuous song. This was in the 60s, I think, the announcer would say..and "now Buddy Emmons", then... "and now so and so"whoever was playing. Had a lot of turn em loose, and let em play what they wanted to. Really cool stuff.

Leon Russell's 'Hank Wilson's Back' features Hal Rugg, Curly Chalker, Pete Drake and others... with more than one steel player on certain tunes.
i need to dig that LP out of the closet.

It's probably not the most steel players, but one of my favorites are the steel guitar trios of Jerry Byrd, Alan Akaka, and Barney Isaacs entitled "Islands Call" (rereleased as "Twilight In Hawaii"). Jerry Byrd arranged the steel parts and it is absolutely gorgeous. _________________ For the best in vintage Hawaiian music - featuring plenty of steel guitar - listen to...

I read about this in the "Flaming Guitars" boxset booklet. I don't suppose this ever got a CD release? I'd love to hear it.
Google turns up bupkis. |

Michael,
No CD reissue that I'm aware of.
I live in Independence, but am
currently working away.
When I get in next month
perhaps we can hook up
and you can hear it.

I think somebody just sent Reece A a copy.
Three cuts.
Side 1
"Twelve Midnight" (8:3
(Jimmy Bryant & John Gore)
"Cottontail Blues" (14:51)
( Jimmy Bryant)
Side 2
"Lone some Road" (20:47)
The album itself was not released to begin with.
I dont think there are any "copyright" applications. I'd like to know if I'm wrong. Maybe just what Label it was recorded under. That would clear it up.
It caused a bit of hubbub from what I understand because the cover of it was a pic of a union timecard, for a session that none of them reported...
We'll see I guess as time goes by...
hehehehehe....

Jeff Newman produced a 45 of many players (Brumley, Franklin, Green, & Newman) taking rides on "Together Again." They play on both sides, the label is "Full Moon" NR 16731. It's pretty cool. I wonder if Fran Newman still sells it? |
