This is my baby. I bought her with a collapsed cone from a guitar dealer who had her (poorly) set up as a finger style guitar. With a brand new quarterman cone, saddles and nut raiser, she positively screams as a lap style resophonic.

So what do I have here? Did Gretsch really make it and when? Will post sounds clips soon.

Thanks,
Ricky

Your basic Model 19 a/k/a Angelus, this version made by Regal for Gretsch, mid/late '30s.

Thanks Ben,

Was the Gretsch company just selling them for Regal? Or were they likely involved in any part of my guitar's manufacture?

Regal (and Harmony and Valco) made a wide range of guitars for multiple companies. If you had the money and wanted your name on a guitar, they'd build it for you.

Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars lists Rex, Broman, Alhambra, More Harmony, and Orpheum among the labels you can find on Regal-made resophonic guitars. I'm sure there are many others out there.

Thanks as usual for the prompt and accurate replies. This forum is unbelievable.

Even if it was pretty bottom of the line when made, this guitar has really picked up some character over the years. A couple hundred bucks on new guts has it singing real prettily and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Except maybe one of those new Jerry Douglas Beards.

any takers?

Ok, fine, I'll settle for an Auldridge, but that's my final offer Oh Well
