| Hello, I am a new member ; just got my registration confirmation today. I am 65 years old and retired. I I played an 8 string fender in my teens and early twenty's so it has been a long time since I played a steel guitar. I decided to relearn and found an instructor, bought a Asher Hawaiian Junior 6 string lap steel, tuned it to C6 and have been practicing every day. I was a little surprised to learn that I can still do slants though not perfectly yet. My left hand seemed to know what to do right away but my right hand is very rusty. Anyway, I hope to relearn and eventually move up to an 8 string console model( non-pedal). I am sure I will have questions that I would like to ask the members from time to time. |

Hi Jim!
I've been playing steel guitar a couple of years now, & I've found this forum to be invaluable for picking up tips and advice from some of the most welcoming and knowledgeable folks I've encountered out here in Internetland.
It's good to hear that you're taking up the steel again!
Asher certainly make some good guitars, you're gonna enjoy it for sure, & you've come to the right place to share with us your steel renaissance! |

| Hi Jim, Its never too late to start again. I restarted after a very long break,(I guess well over 25 years)and I'm enjoying every minute of re-learning. I think you're doing the right thing by going with C6th, Its a very versatile tuning for us learners!!! When I packed up I thought the only tuning was A major, didn't even know there were other tunings. Keep on with it Jim its sure to come back bit by bit. |

That day never comes, one has to make time for practice. It doesn't help when anyone leaves the guitar in the case either.  It motivates better when one leaves the guitar out of the case where it can be seen every day.  One might say then, "But it will get dusty." I say a little dust never hurt a guitar. 
That is my .01 worth.

| I am really enjoying learning to play again. Since I am retired I have plenty of time to practice. If I can get respectable playing again I will want to trade up to a 8 string console model. Are the Cruz Tone and Remington guitars a good way to go? |
