From recent conversations with Bob Carlucci it occurs to me that there may just be more cable-action FenderFreaks out there than just me. I've had lots of different steels but have always seemed to return to my old (albeit heavilly modified)
sunburst 400. Am I some kind of nut, or are there others out there with the same affliction? I haven't found anything else that even comes close to the snappy, transient-laden sound I can get with the Fender. Rock 'n roll? Blues? No problem!
What about you? Been "dissed" unmercifully by your over-mechanized peers, have you? Here's the place to speak out! How did you do your knee levers? Have you tried a second pickup? Figured out how to mimic a double-changer? I'll tell you my secrets if you'll tell me yours! Leo Lives! |

I've been a Sho-Bud lover for years, but I'm currently in the process of restoring two Fender "cablies" for my own use, so ask me again in a few months....
...maybe then I'll change my avatar.. ![Whoa!](images/smiles/icon_omg.gif) |

Sorry, that one went right over my head. Could you be a bit more explicit... ![Confused](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) |

There are a bunch of Fender players here, in a few different groups:
Players using a version of E9 (or tuning down to D9) and playing traditional stuff.
Hawaiian-style players
Country-rockers using different versions of Sneaky Pete's B6
We've found parts sources are working of fabricating things that can't be found, and generally having a great time. They are fine guitars that, when set up well, play very smoothly and accurately. _________________ No chops, but great tone
1930's/40's Rickenbacher/Rickenbacker 6&8 string lap steels
1921 Weissenborn Style 2; Hilo&Schireson hollownecks
Appalachian, Regal & Dobro squarenecks
1959 Fender 400 9+2 B6;1960's Fender 800 3+3+2; 1948 Fender Dual-8 Professional |

Yeah, there's definitely something about the utter simplicity of the things---and eight strings is plenty, ya know? All those extra low notes only invade the bass player's sonic territory so they're wasted IMHO. BTW I tune my 400 a whole-tone low so I'm kind of a nine-string.
So the RodBoys can diss us all they want. We got da sound! |

I guess I've been gone from England for too long. I'd never heard of the series. I did recognise some of the actors from other series, though. One always imagines one can go home at some stage, but "home" disappears after one leaves. The England I knew no longer exists.... ![Crying or Very sad](images/smiles/icon_cry.gif) |

How true that is Alan, Enoch Powell saw to that !!But we still cherish the memories of it in a small corner of our hearts.. and to make our hearts a little heavier, the Hawaii all us Brits dreamed about is also long gone. (If it ever did exist) |

I go back to the U.K. to see old friends, and to play with Basil.
What with the lack of a National Health system over here I may have to eventually return for the medical benefits.... ![Oh Well](images/smiles/icon_ohwell.gif) |
