My cassette deck with pitch control finally died and I didn't want to invest in a new one. The pitch control was important to me because so many rhythm tracks are recorded a slight bit more or less than the standard speed. Found this software and it really works. Lets you control the "pitch" of a tuning note. Lets you speed up or slow down the music without changing the pitch--no Alvin and the Chipmunks or Boris Karloff. Even lets you record the processed music to CD. Rank amateurs like me can slow down the band and still try to play in tune. Now any casstte deck or CD player can be adjusted! For my needs, its a great piece of software. Highly recommended. Windows and Mac available

Yes Amazing Slow Downer has helped me pick apart some tuff stuff over the past year. A useful tool to use.

john, I cannot find anything in media player that allows you to slow a tune down, say 80%, and keep it in the same key, or to adjust pitch control by hertz. Perhaps you can tell us where in Media Player these features are? That would be terrific!

Closest thing I see in WMP 11 is the ability to change speed of a video file. Even if WMP COULD do this, the options and ease of use of the Roni Music software makes it an easy choice. It is just so easy to use. Combined with his Split recorder, its SOOOO easy to convert a cassette to an in tune CD. Couldn't be more satisfied with a piece of software. WMP may be free but it doesn't get me very enthusiastic.

Apparently WMP 10 had this function

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/jukebox.aspx

but I don't see it in version 11. I don't know if SmartJuke box was part of WMP or an add-in.

Actually, now that I've looked a bit, you need to purchase an add on to WMP. And I don't think you have the flexibility of ASD. One of the things I like about it is setting start and stop points to loop say a solo or intro. I use it a lot for doing charts as well as picking up all the JayDee Maness stuff I am having to learn for Rancho Deluxe.

BTW, Mike Witcher <sp> plays some awesome dobro on the RD stuff....check them out. One of the best guitar players I have heard out here on the coast as well, Jesse Harris.

I think the Amazing SlowDowner is awesome. Just think of how many records and needles could've been spared if we'd had this years ago.

Oh and let's not forget our own Skip Edwards blasting out some fine piano on the latest from Rancho Deluxe as well. Ghost Town rocks!

Jan,
It is good. They kept it really simple for us geeknots. I really like its ability to isolate down to a couple of notes if I need to. Any key any speed, quick and easy for old guys like me. DS

I've had great results with Acoustica (www.acoustica.com). I can do just about anything possible to a sound track, including only play selected portions, and, best of all, it's free for the download!
