Does a D-108&4 need any other pedals (besides volume) to be added to it? |
Yes, anything for "that sound" I've imagined! |

Hi Everyone,
I was lucky enough to end up with a Carter volume pedal that doesn't easily attatch to my MSA guitar (which was coincidentaly, and beautifully, assmebled by Bud Carter ~35 years ago). I also happen to be addicted to the "hold" function on my BOSS digital delay pedal from my brief flirtation with an electric guitar.
I tried it out for a few weeks as a vertical knee lever on my steel but that really screwed things up. So I slipped it under the front lip of my volume pedal and voila! It's easy to feel where I've topped out the pot and am hitting the second pedal. With a DD unit like mine, a better player than I could theoretically get full repeating chord voicings while playing licks.
The only downside is that you have to spend any time on delay pushing full volume. But then again, who really doesn't want to mash it when they're playing melodies? Come to think of it, who wants any "effect" to come in on anything but topped out sound and fury?
Has anyone else played around with effects pedals on thier steel? Where do you like to keep them?

I can vote either way depending on the day or the situation. |

I think most steelers using FX lean towards rack mounted gear rather than pedals, as both feet are already fairly well occupied.
Typically, a processor w/ delay, reverb and chorus functions can be useful. |

Here's a pretty recent family portrait:
That's my Gibson Electraharp EH-820, Morrell Lap Steel, MSA Classic D-10, Mid 30's "gretsch" resonator (that I would love to know more about) and the corner of my little buddy, which I'm trying to sell.
I can take some other shots soon.
The MSA shares a Fender Champ 12 and a Peavey Basic 60 with the Yamaha YC-30 organ. |

Frenchy,
You luddite
Last couple of gigs I left the Profex at home and brought an RV-5 and DD-6.
I'm going to play with them some more. They do sound nice and it's one less box I have to carry. _________________ Howard Parker
