Downloading song files into an external hard drive

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is this the correct way to download songs to an external hard drive? My dad tries to help me set up my laptop, but i am not sure his way is correct. But this is how i understand to do this with windows vista, am i close? Not sure where my dad got these instructions.

Change the SAVE TO Folder in your IMPORT Window so that all Imported songs go to the External Hard Drive. To accomplish this, do this:

Connect your External HD to your Laptop and BOOT UP to Windows
Click the Hoster Icon to Open Hoster
Click IMPORT to Open the Import Window
Click Save To Folder
Click the DROP DOWN Arrow on the Right-Hand Side of the "LOOK IN:" Box
Click the DRIVE LETTER that designates your External HD
Click the CREATE NEW FOLDER Icon that is to the RIGHT of the Yellow Folder
.......with an UP ARROW on it.
Type word SONGS and press the ENTER Key
Double Left-Click the new Folder called SONGS
Click the SELECT Button
Close the IMPORT Window

Next:

Set a SONGS SOURCE FOLDER in the TOOLS/Build Songs Database Window.

To accomplish this, do this:

1. Click TOOLS
2. Click BUILD SONGS DATABASE
3. If there are any Folders listed in the "Songs Source Folders" Window, click
....on them and DELETE them form the Window.
4. When you have a BLANK "Songs Source Folders" Window, Click
....SELECT FOLDER
5. Click the DROP-DOWN Arrow that is located on the RIGHT-HAND side of
....the "Look In:" Box.
6. Click the Drive Letter Designation of your External Hard Drive
7. Double LEFT-Click the Folder SONGS
8. Click the SELECT Button - This Drive Letter and Folder should be listed in the "Songs Source Folders" Window i.e. E:\SONGS
9. Close the BUILD SONGS DATABASE Window.

Now you are ready to Import Songs and start building your song data base with out software.

Lillie;
Those instructions came straight from the company that makes the InHoster software and laptops. Those are the correct instructions for their program. The only variable will be the drive letter that is assigned to the external disk. You can find that letter by opening My Computer, where all drives are listed. Your external drive will be shown near, or next to your C drive, but separate from CD/DVD and media card drives.

Thank You very much Mr Feinberg, sometimes parents mean well, but on things like this i would rather try it on my own, and get pro advice such as yours. Apparently you know more about this company and software then my dad does. Thank you again. LMP

Lillie, I can see from the avatar pic that you're too young to remember the show "Father Knows Best'. The show is out of vogue but the title is still the truth. Very Happy

Seriously, I always come here when I have trouble with electronics and computers. What we get here is much easier the understand than a Google search or Microsoft support.

Well put Ron.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Many people have helped me here, but I have to say Wiz and Jack Stoner (former COMPUTER moderator) are the real deal.

I've been on the forum for 10 years, and I've learned more about computers than pedal steel.

Thanks again Wiz and Jack; and of course, to all others who have shined the light.

What a forum this is. You gotta keep that in mind. Never take this place for granted.

INVALUABLE.
