Mine was a recording session. The guy called me to add some pedal steel for a jingle. He went on and on about how he loved that pedal steel sound. After I got there and set up I noticed he kept checking out my guitar, like it was the first one he ever saw.Well I laid down the the first track and thought it went well. He then asked me to do it again, this time lose the volume thing, actually remove it! Take two. This time dont use any of those pedal things. Take three. Can you do it with just use one string, there is too much going on.
The last straw was when he wanted the initial string attack to be more subtle and stronger as I slid the bar! I told him I couldn't do it and I packed up and left! |

Not exactly song requests, but two things come to mind.
Once, while doing a session the producer asked me to play the part again, only this time make it real bluesy, but leave out all the 7ths.
And once, while playing in the house band at the Palomino, somebody came up to the bandstand and said, "Can y'all turn it down about an octave?" |

Once had a woman ask if we could play "Cat Woman".
Told her I'd never heard that song, how does it go.
After her best attempt at singing a little of "Cat Woman", I figured out she wanted us to play the great Poco song, "Kind Woman"!!! LOL

Not to be too picky, Jim, but 'Kind Woman' was a great Buffalo Springfield song, pre-Poco... (Of course, either way it was Richie Furay and Rusty Young) |

Whenever I'm visiting a club that has live music, I act drunk and ask the band, (any band, country, rock, blues, polka, jazz, whatever) to play that "Wo-o-o Feelings" song. I just like to look at the expressions on their faces! |

My favourite is the request credited to promoter Mervyn Conn at a recording session. Pressing the talk-back button, he told the double-bassist that his 'strings were rattling a bit' - could he tighten them up, please?

It was in my singing days. I was singing at this seedy tavern. At the start of the 2nd set this huge drunk came up to the bandstand and said: You sing Crystal Chandeliers!
Me: Well, we did that one at the end of the previous set. He gets within 6 inches of my face...
Drunk: You do Crystal Chandeliers!
Me: Ladies and gents, here we go with another request: Crystal Chandeliers... |

Two come to mind. Before the last notes of " Your Cheatin' Heart" had faded...someone yelled out a request for " Your Cheatin' Heart." They were serious. It wasn't as if the version we just played was unrecognizable either...it was a great band. And I always get a kick out of..."Play something I might like! " |
