At least according to the new February 2008 Guitar Player magazine, Fender has reissued their big, bad combo volume/tone pedals - nowhere to be found at retailers yet, though.  The V+T pedal has a retail price of $119, so if they've found a decent, durable set of pots to go in there, this is going to make all those vintage $250 pedals look a little... expensive, shall we say....  They're reviewed by Editor Boy Michael Molenda, who apparently hasn't ever seen an original - of course he likes everything made by a major advertiser these days.
(Fender doesn't even know they make 'em yet either, according to their website, hmmm.) |

| I was surprised to find that Fender is reissuing this pedal, which will have very limited appeal. $119 is a welcome price break over the increasingly rare originals, but I have to suspect Fender may skimp on the components. Still, I'm looking forward to having an identical backup for my vintage V/T and pot pedal owners know that pot replacement is inevitable. |

I saw that, too. Is the old Fender pedal known for ability to do good boo-wah sounds?
Even if the pots and cap need replaced it might be a deal for the case and mechanism. |

| The pedal is great for the crash bar doo-wah effect with my Fender 1000 and Stringmaster. Not sure how it translates to guitars with more than eight strings. |

I have one of the originals and it's a nice tool for
electric fiddle. Not only do you have control over
volume for leads or backups, but it does a nice tweak as you go for tone, without having to go back to your amp. |

| Notice that the volume / tone pedal pictured on the web site above has the input and output jacks on opposite sides. The original has the jacks on the same (right-hand) side. This might not be a problem with a non-pedal steel, but it's something to be aware of, and might mean that there other differences, too. |

For Jerry's and everyone else's info., the IN and OUT Jacks are on one side of the pedal and the Jack on the other side is intended for the use of a Tuner! Isn't that a clever thought? (If you depend on a tuner!)

John, this image from Fender's website shows two jacks on the left side.

I took that to mean that one of those is output and the other for a tuner, with the input on the right side. Otherwise, both input and output are on the left side, and a tuner jack on the right side. Either way, it's not ideal for steel guitar to have any jacks on the left side. I think the reason they did it that way is so that it's easier to use with a guitarist's pedal board on the floor. I don't think they had steel guitar in mind.
But, who knows, I haven't actually seen one yet. |

I asked the jack question on the myspace page for the Fender Classics Reissues, and here's what they wrote back:
"The right side is the input jack, upper left side jack is the tuner output (Which will still send a signal when the pedal is fully down, tune in quiet!) and the lower jack on the left is the standard signal output.

I'd rather have the guitar-input on the left side and the volume-pedal output on the right side! Maybe I can change it! I don't even care about the Tuner-Angle!

| Probably wouldn't be so hard to drill a hole and put 'em both on the right side. The original setup is best for keeping your wires out of the way. |

Tim.. and John Bechtel...I agree and there should be no reason to start drilling holes to make what you feel is most practical to both of you and others..I will email R&D after the Namm and point out your comments whuch I feel is necessary.. I do beleive this can be an issue...

| Seems as though I workin two threads here..First off Ron..I don't really know if this pedal can be reversed so far as the way Jerry Byrd had his..I would imagine it's possible..Anything is. First off I explained to R&D I would review this with no holds barred..this project is an important one for Fender and I told them I would report both pro and con..the last thing they want is a polyanna dude who won't tell it like it is..there are many things in the past that I took issue with regarding Fender amps and guitars where else can they get feedback from Steel Players as on this forum..I have always told it as I saw it and nothing more and nothing less. I will copy and paste each of your comments and forward them to R&D and let them see what those of you are saying..I am not on the payroll nor getting this pedal as a freebie..I will pay more than likely dealer net plus shipping edited I have no clue as to the exact shipping date to stores..I would imagine many orders are being processed at the Namm..as far as purchasing on line..I have no idea..sorry I cant be of more help.. |

| Jody, you are the best! You can tell Fender thanks for me and that I'm real glad to see this item come back (even though it will devalue my original pedal). While I would have preferred the same configuration as the original, I'll be real happy with the re-issue version. |
