Curtis,

I recently had Peavey go through a vintage LTD 400. It had quite a few things wrong with it...if I had the list handy, I would post it.

With the shipping, the repairs & a new reverb pan, I think it cost around $140 maybe.

That's not too bad at all in my book. It's alot cheaper than anyone local would've charged...and it was a fairly fast turnaround on it.

Like I said before, my LTD 400 had alot of problems. Perhaps others can tell you a better price figure.

Peavey Service can't be beat...thanks Mike Brown!!!

Casey

I think you'd probably be wasting your money. Worry about that sort of thing when it doesn't work fine, or in another 10 years (whichever comes first).

My intense mod replaces 38 components. I check all jack and clean them. I re-tension the reverb cables and clean the connections. All pots are checked and cleaned as needed.

This mod includes all filtering caps replaced, the Metzger reverb mod and the Peavey style tone mod using my selection of quality parts. All that is $235.00.

I do a similar upgrade for Session 400 and LTD 400 amps at $210.00.

I have done over 70 of these amps last year alone.

Just a thought!

I'm with Donny. The NV400 is the most dependable amp I have ever owned. Been playing one of mine since 1983 with absolutely no problems, not even the dreaded reverb molex connector coming loose.

I did buy another recently as a backup, or if I want to use 2 amps on a gig. The only thing I might think of doing is the tone circuit mods that are available. But my NV400's sound great as they are.

HI Guys,
thanks for the input
i assure you your preaching to the choir about peavey amps.
they are great amps. having played guitar in a Gospel group for 30 plus years the only peavey failures i have had were age related.im new to steel guitar.i have several amps but this is my first nv400 if i knew it had been serviced recently i wouldnt worry.its an emotional insurance policy.the amp does have two pots that are a little tight but work none the less .maybe Mike Brown will check their records using my serial number and see if it has been serviced,it did come from a long time steel player.maybe he had it serviced by peavey.
thanks again and keep the comments comming.

Hi Autry,
its good to hear from you .i hope all is well.
yes your amp sounds great. i played 4 nv400 amps before i found one that sounds realy good to me.as i told you ,i am a semi retired electro- mechanical eng.after building and repairing tube amps for over 40 years as a hobby i realize the value of being proactive with my equipment.i have 3 vintage fender amp projects on my bench as we speak.i love breathing new life into tube amps.however by the time i ordered the parts i need from my supplier and do the work myself, peavey can have it done and back to me giving me the time to do the tube amp stuff that i prefer doing anyway.why dont you set your amp out by the curb?im sure it will be safe, just call me before you set it out there.HA HA HA
thanks for chiming in. i hope to visit with you soon.

I am still using my Session 400 after 30+ years. Works great. I have played thru every Peavey steel amp that's ever been, and they work first time every time. Jody.

Guys im realy enjoying your input.
my two choices are to send the amp to the factory or to do it myself(i am far from a stranger to audio electronics design and repair )
from all i have heard ,ken is a great technition and i have great respect for him and his work.
i have taken inventory and i have all parts needed except the exact power caps and the pots i want to replace,i have two suppliers that sell peavey parts and im sure they have the items i would need. i have been using burr brown chips for years now and have 21 at this time ,however i have plenty of tube amp projects in my shop to keep me busy for some time.
thanks again for the comments, keep them coming.
and Ken,keep up the good work.

I would suggest sending your amp to Ken Fox for his mod. I had mine done and my 1000 is now a practice amp. THe lows are lower and warmer, very nice seperation between notes,I can't say enough about it.You wouldn't be disappointed.Happy Trails, Mike C.
