Got to see Dickey playing saturday night in Nashille at the Troubadour Theatre. He was with Miss Amber Digby. Wow, what a show, he absolutely knocked us out and had that Sho-Bud screamin!

You sure right about ole Dickey. He can really make that guitar cry, but put a smile on every Steel Players face when they hear him.

| Hello cousin Alan Rudd. If you are going to boast about Dickey, then I am too. I fell in love with this certain steel guitar sound that I heard quite often when i got my XM radio, listening to Hank's Place which is Willie's now. I said to myself, Those are the licks and the sound that I want to sound like. Who is this guy. Well, I didn't know it at the time, but I had fallen in love with the great taste and feel of Dickey Overby. Every time I turn on the XM radio now, I am hoping to hear Dickey playing those cool licks and phrases. Thanks for posting the picture Nick, of you and Dickey. Can you tell me what amp he was playing through? |

Great to finally meet you here on the forum. Your cousin Alan told me alot about you back when he was playing in my band. Anyway in answer to your question, Dickey was using a Fender Twin Reverb (mic'ed through the house system) and just a Boss RV-3 like I use. Dickey was playing his Sho-Bud Pro II Custom. He also has a 66' Rosewood Emmons P/P. That's the one he played in St. Louis. Dickey told me the Emmons is really his favorite. It solidly kicks BUTT! And you know that put a smile on my face.

Alan talked about a guy named Nick many times, and so you are that Nick. I am glad to meet you also. I played for Alan years ago, and that was some of the most fun I had when I played. Alan was in big demand around this area, back in the 80's and 90's. Thank you so much for the reply. I am surprised that Dickey is not playing the typical Peavey amp of some choice, like most of us. I have owned 4 Emmons ( 2 black mica, one hunter green mica and one derby red) and one MSA. I never once played through a Twin Reverb. I hope to get to try one some day. I am going to use the picture of you and Dickey as my screensaver for a while. Thanks again to you and Dickey. |

I first heard Amber and Dickey a few years ago at Scotty's. A great Texas bunch came up and knocked us out. The group included Jake Hooker, Bobby Flores, Amber Digby, Justin Trevino with Dickey backing them all.
Timely that you should mention this, Nick. I'm just catching on to MP3 and WMA files. I decided it would be great with my single disc player in the car to have a bunch of the compact format files on a single disc. So for my first effort I tossed in all of the above-mentioned singers along with Johnny Bush and Dale Watson. I just labled it TEXAS COUNTRY. Unfortunately, it won't play in my car (yet) but it sure made transfer to my laptop here at work easy. I've been listening to Amber all morning and now Bobby is queued up.
Maybe we can get that bunch back to St. Louis real soon!
