Topic: My almost new 1978 Sierra! |

I got this from a gentleman who had ordered it new. He had put an odd tuning on it and quickly lost his fascination with pedal steel. It sat for years un-played! A true closet classic. Per Tom, at Sierra, it is a SS-10 with the early double raise, double lower changer. From what I found out from Harley James it was one on the best changers they made! Super smooth and plays like velvet! Even the case is in excellent shape!
I gutted it and ordered more rods and parts from Tom. What a great guy to work with! He was a wealth of info on the steel and had all the parts I needed shipped in no time at all.
I took apart the changer and added missing plastic pieces (rod guides). The changer looks like new, virtually no wear.
I got it set up with A-B-C peals and a Franklin pedal on the 4th. I used the GFI copedent for all the changes, very nice!
And to boot, it sounds great!!

Ken the top looks better than the bottom, when I was up there we just looked at the bottom, a new guitar is what it is.
Sure is pretty.
see you tomorrow, ,mabe we can finish the shop, paint some wood work or the doors.

Ken I got one of those,,, check it out on the British Steelies site, built like a tank! Mine used to belong to Rod King a great player and well respected over here in the UK, its been all over the world quite a few times but shows very little wear, they are very nice guitars. |

Hey Ken, I have one that looks just like that except it is a D10. They sure are nice PSG's.
For Bryan, what is the SN on that Sierra. It looks a lot like a D10 I use to have (SN 00015). |

This guitar was probably built by either you or me....assuming that it left the shop with a "custom copedant".....but, I'm not sure if Mark S. was still @ Sierra in 1978. |

I JUST PLAYED THIS GUITAR OVER THE WEEKEND, My opinion Ken if you ever sell this one you will wish you had it back.
When I had played it for about 30 min. I wishe4d it were mine. So smoothe and nice.sweet sound and sustain.

Hey Ken -
I just bought a Sierra S12 keyless (like John R.'s only black) from a forum member and I'm liking mine a lot also. It's sounding sweet through my NV400 with your mod! Plays great and tone/sustain wise does not have a dead spot anywhere - really consistent. It seems like they last about forever. Enjoy... |

I sold my Sierra U12, Black a few years ago to a Forum member in California. I know he re-sold it. Wish I had never let it go!!

Ken that is a nice looking guitar! I can't wait to hear ya play it!
I bought a Keyless U12 E9/B6 Sierra new in 2001. Ebony Birdseye, 8&6, polished everything, w/ George L pick up. I set it up and only looked at it for two months then sold it for an $800 loss. WHAT A BIG DUMMY!

As much as I love it, I still want another U-12! Thinking strongly about a Fessiden (hope I spelled that right!) or another Sierra for a U-12.
Just listed the Sierra last night! I know someday I will probably look back..... |

Someone was asking about my Sierra's serial number, but I lost the email. According to Tom Baker, it's a non-standard number, since this was Harley James's personal guitar and not a production model.
