Anybody here in Canada know if Tommy Hunter has a steel player on his current tour? He's coming to Newfoundland this month.

Chris, I don't know any more than you do but if I may guess...could it be Steve Smith?

I just read a blurb on Tommy's site from 2006..there they list Steve as the steel player.
Also, I just ordered tickets for the wife and me for Jan 11. In London

I see he is coming to St. Johns on the 21 and 22
We have something to look forward to if he has Steve with him!

Bent, I thought it might be Steve. He was here a few years ago with Eddie Eastman and we got to jam a bit. He used my Session 400 while he was here. What a monster player.

The last few years the Hunter road band, which only tours in Jan and Feb, had three Steves and a drummer.

S. Smith - Steel and Dobro
S. Petrie - Lead Guitar and Fiddle
S. Piticco - Bass (Yes, Bass!) He's on this year's tour for sure.

Hi Guys;

This years Tommy Hunter Tour will have the great
Steve Smith on Steel, Kurk Bernard on Bass, Roger
Sullivan on Drums & me on Lead Guitar Smile After
spending the last 10 or so years on Bass with Tommy,
this will be different in one way but Lead is my
1st instrument. I will certainly miss the
commrodary with Steve Petrie & Kenny Post but it
will be a great tour I am sure!

See you there Chris & Happy be-lated Birthday Joey,
enjoy the show in London, Bent!
Steve Piticco.

Well, isn't this show complete now. Smile It's great news that you're on lead this time, Steve. Thanks for the info.....I'll be there. Stevie will probably be using my Session anyway.

Steve, I hope I will be allowed to take pictures..I am a consummate shutter bug when it comes to performers.

By the sounds of Tommy's web site, he is quite liberal when it comes to picture taking.
I was hoping that Steve would be playing his Fulawka..we'll see...
See you and the other Steve at the show on the 11th!

Hey Bent;
I am sure you can take all the pictures you like Smile
I am not sure what Steel Stevie will be using although
no matter what he is pickin' on, it always sounds
great as Stevie Smith has the magic touch!
I think Stevie Smith is getting a new Carter although
I know he also has a Sho-Bud, Rains, as well as the
Falawka Smile

Chris;
I remember you lending Stevie your Peavey Amp down
at the Art's & Culture Centre with Kevin Collins
but in Tommy's show we are all direct and use no amps or floor monitors.

Take care, Guys!
Steve Piticco.

Sorry to be so long in responding to your Post, Chris, but I've had a flood in my basement that needed some work done! Also, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you & Joey Ace in Steady Brook, Newfoundland last August when I was in nearby Little Port, NL!
As you can see, I've enclosed a few photos I took of the Tommy Hunter Show in Surrey, BC (just a few miles from Elizabeth West's home) about 4 years ago. In the 1st photo, left to right, are:- Steve Petrie, Steve Smith, Kenny Post, Steve Piticco, and Tommy Hunter; this is the listing of personnel that both Joey & Steve Piticco provided on Jan. 2 & Jan. 3. The 2nd photo shows Steve Petrie & Steve Piticco on acoustic guitars, backing Tommy on vocal. The 3rd photo shows Steve Smith on his Carter steel. After the show, I went backstage & chatted with Steve Smith & Steve Piticco, who I have met a few times at the ISGC in St. Louis. Regards, Jim Harrison

I saw this show last night, and it was fabulous. The expert showmanship of Tommy and the band blew me away. Steve Smith had great tone and chops on his brand new black 8+7 Carter, and Steve Pittico was his usual outstanding self on Tele. It was a pleasure to see such a professional show. I went with two other steel players, and we all went for a little steel jam afterwards. Steve showed me a few licks, and we had a singalong while watching Steve tear it up on the E9. Great night. Steve is one of the best I've heard, and certainly (in my opinion) the best steel player in Canada.
