I was just starting to play about the time Larry checked out. I grew up hearing about him though, he was alegend here in Houston; and to this day a picture of him still hangs in the Texas Saloon on Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena, TX. Wish I could have heard him play.

I remember Larry Bob quite well. We used to play Gilley's on a regular basis, and I always looked forward to seeing and hearing him. He got such a great sound out of his Marrs guitar that I considered getting one myself. He was a great player and a nice guy.... _________________ Tommy Detamore

Of course, I remember Larry Bob. What a beautiful tone he had, what impeccable taste. The last time I saw him he was riding a bicycle down Spencer Highway in Pasadena, Texas.
Oh yes, and he also had a JCH which he was very fond of.

Hey Scott - I know both Lynn and Terry! We still do a lot of sessions together. We did one at Soundmasters with A.V. Middlestat last week. Lynn is doing well...what great guys they both are. JC

I remember LarryBob, He introduced me to Gilley's club owner(Sherwood)and "The Bourbon Cowboy Band" for a steel gig around 1981. It was a fun gig. LarryBob was a great person and a fine picker, he would give you the shirt off his back. R.I.P. |

I loved ole' "Larry Bob", I met him in Gilly's club while I was booked in with Johnny Paycheck in '85. He was a very hilariously funny guy and kept me in stiches at all times. Miss him and thing about him all the time, such a shame, what a loss.

I played a couple of gigs with Larry years ago and man could he wear out a steel guitar! He had that green Marrs steel thru a Peavey Session 400 and his tone was just great. He knew some great instrumentals (especially on C6) but my 2 favorites were "Ode To Billy Jo" and "Rose Colored Glasses." I miss Larry alot, I wish he was still around. He definately left his mark ....... |
