May I draw your attention to Item 180200728913. How unusual is this instrument, I wonder. Seller claims it's prewar but it looks like a strings-through 1950s, does it not? It has, according to the text, "an extra wide cast metal neck bolted onto the bakelite body". It does look extra wide, I think, but WAS there such a thing as a metal neck on a bakelite body? The neck looks like bakelite to me. Strange.
Potential buyers will find that the starting bid is $3000, and will be pleased to learn that there is no reserve  . |

That must be the 10 string model you are refering to.
When Rickenbacher went to more strings, they probably had to use a metal neck. |

| Yes, that makes sense. The tuners do seem strangely far apart. But pics are not sufficiently detailed for evidence of modification to bridge or nut to be discernible. After all, why would they fit an extra wide neck unless to accomodate more than six strings! But you'd think seller would have noticed any sign of modification. |

| I think the price is way out of range for the 6 stringer. It sounds like the seller is emphasizing these guitars were owned by Al Casey. |

The six string I saw is a '50 or later, although he sez it's a 30s  I had one of that vintage. It has the long sort of diamond shaped logo plate.
Is it supposed to sound better if a famous person played it?? 
Bobby Ingano played all the guitars here, and they still sound the same |

| The same seller has a 10-stringer and a 6-stringer, both overpriced Rick bakelites, for auction. The description is basically the same for both, but seems to match only the 10-string guitar. Why he couldn't be bothered to describe the 6-stringer accurately is anyone's guess-- but the prices are enough to keep any sensible buyer away from this one. |

| I own a 10 string Rickenbacker that is a late 40's model. Strings through the bakelite body with cast iron neck. It has incredible tone too. My dad Bobby Garrett gave me lessons on this guitar when I was a kid. |
