Just spent 5 days with Ken and Ruth Fox, we did his sheetrock on his new Shop. Boys your amps will be built in the lap of Lux,u know.
While I did the rock Ken did the mod to my Vegas 400, it is now a "Dream Machine".
We came up with a neat Idea. He has 2 speakers set up in the shop on stands, with Horns in them. On this Ken test drives all his work, Boy do they sound good.
I have another vegas 400 we are going to put the mod in it and add a horn, with an off switch, stay tuned,and also what do you think of this Idea????

Ernest,
The horn should give you a better high response, I used an external horn with a Fender Super Reverb, added some to the highs.

I will look into a high efficiency peizo-electric horn. A piezo-electric horn is a very high impedance, does not require a cross-over and does not load down the amp due to its high impedance.
Any suggestions for one appreciated! |

I'm totally interested.
I recently installed Deltalite II in Marrs ultralite cabinet, and discovered it didn't have any clear tone profile. I installed Piezo tweeter( with crossover at 5000hz)and the sharp, clear tone came alive.
When I tested it, I used crossover at both 3000hz and 5000hz, and I discovered when I used 3000hz, it sounded much harsher, so I went with 5000hz.
I tried L-pad too, but for some reason, the taper of the L-pad didn't give me wide range of the control, so I disconnected it.

Sounds interesting! What brand/model Piezo did you use? I owuld like to look it up onthe net.
I have never had to use a crossover on one before, as they usually do not require one. However, I can see the benefit of the frequency selection added by a crossover. Above 5000 hz would be a great area to use device. |

The one I used was a typical "cheapo" Piezo horn tweeter. The one sold at the Parts Express for $2 or so.
What's interesting was, the piezo tweeter has to face along with main speaker otherwise it doesn't give the "effect" at all.
The concept of common speaker is to create "air wave" via moving cone of the speaker. But piezo is not moving much of air at all. Instead, it's producing "frequency" to add on to the main speaker.
In fact, when I put my ear closer to Piezo, it's making high pitch "noise" and not "musical" sound at all. But once that "frequency" is mixed in, over all sound gets much better and clear.
If anyone can explain this phenomenon, I like to know more about it.

Well, Ken has my Twin Reverb as we speak. He started work on it today (we have already spoken twice; CUSTOMER SERVICE!!). It's good to know that the amp is in luxury!!
Earnie, Ken told me you've been helping him out in the new shop. He told me you slap wore him out. He said he was too tired and sore to fix my amp; LOL! Just kidding. Ken is tweaking and fixing the old girl up. He is also setting the amp up where the channel 1 is wired and "tempered" for steel WITH the reverb active. Channel 2 remains the same. Ken is doing all he can to have it back to me for a gig on January 3. Thanks Ken! |

Klipsch Has made Top Quality Horn speakers in their studio, home, and Home theater speakers for years, they are world reknown for being the best.
I think they would be perfect, they aren't harsh sounding like some cheaper brands are. |

Yeah, I understand that.
But !! Most of high-end tweeters in my understanding come with heavy magnets. ( if you don't intend to move the speaker system around, this is perfectly fine.)
But we need to carry the speaker box to gigs, so in my Honest opinion, if we make the speaker cabinet nice and heavy, then we might as well use 1501-4 and there is no problem. JBL E-130 is fine too. EV is great.
What's going on with the first shipment of that illusive Neo 1501 ???
