For the benefit of some of us amatuers, HOW IN THE WORD does one go about installing a video on U-Tube?
Seems like that would be a very technical operation.
What say you?
Thanks |

Hi Ray,
This is the easiest thing in the world ( even I can do it) You do need to register on youtube. Then, when you want to upload a video, you need to be signed in.
The only problem I can see cropping up is that youtube does not accept all video formats (correct me if I am wrong) and you have to make sure that the vid is not too long. I think there is a 10 minute time limit. |

Hi Bent!
My stuff is VHS.........format.
What technical steps have to be taken to make it happen? What plugs into what? You can email me if you like or perhaps others would also like to know.
THANKS....... |

You have to turn these to DVDs first. I don't think you can just hook your VCR up to the computer. We bought a DVD recorder a couple years ago and you can hook the VCR into that and make a DVD. Now, technology may allow you to plug the VCR into your computer but at the minimum you need adaptors to go from RCA into the 1/8" computer input. I'll be interested in further replies, because I've got a lot of VCR tapes I'd like to convert just using the computer. _________________ Mullen RP D10, Peavey NV112, Hilton volume. Hound Dog reso. VHS tapes are in analog format and must be converted to digital format to be stored on your computer. Once you have done that you may upload them to Youtube.
A handy gaget is Dazzle ($49.99) which will do the job for you. You hook up your VCR output to Dazzle and then hook the USB plug to your computer....Dazzle provides software or you can use Windows moviemaker which you most likely already have in your computer.
Then go register on Youtube and and upload the file. Youtube prefers wmv files because they convert the best and look the best but will accept avi mov, mpeg IV and some others. Like anything else, it's difficult the first time you do it .
If you have a digital camcorder you can transfer the digital files to your computer without converting but you may still have to change them to a Youtube acceptable format.
Do Google search for Dazzle.
There may be other ways but this worked for me. Converting from a DVD which is already digital should be easy but its not. Its a matter of formats....DVDs use a complicated format which I was never able to convert but I'm sure someone here knows how. DVD's can't be uploaded to Youtube without converting. |

Just Like this..
There are many programs like Pinnacle 11, Sony, Roxio, and others that take little movies from a 150$ digi-camera, title, track, etc anything, and condense it to an uploadable size.
I'm limited by my slow connection.

If you have material already on DVD there are several programs that will convert your DVD to other formats that you can use to upload to Youtube
I've used a free one called MPEG Streamclip. |

Ray,
I'd say it sounds like you're getting good advice from the people who have already posted.
Here how it works for me.
I have an expensive DVD / VHS recorder, that can record from either format to the other. It was worth it for me to purchase such a unit, because I have such an extensive library of VHS tapes that I want to transfer to DVD. I know some people do it direct into their computer, and probably cheaper, but my way works good for me.
Once I have it on DVD, I put it into the DVD drive on my computer, and use a software program called Magic DVD Ripper, which I consider very user friendly and not very expensive. I have the program transfer the DVD to Window Media Video, WMV, which is a program that works well with YouTube.
Once you're signed up on YouTube, follow their directions on how to upload your video to their site.
I hope this has been some what helpful.

Ray, I use the Dazzle exclusively whether I have the video on DVD or VHS. I find it is easier than trying to edit a DVD first.
It is a very simple process as long as you have Windows XP or later. I use Windows Media Player with Dazzle, then I add titles and edit as necessary and then upload to YouTube.
The whole process takes me about 20 minutes per song.

Good to hear your review of the Dazzle, Bill.
I see they have them at Circuit City, but the customer reviews were pretty bad.
I can easily transfer digital video files from my Digital Camera, but have a 8mm Video Camera that I still use, and the Dazzle might be just the ticket.
With that said... I see digital video recorders going for $69 bucks. Anybody using one of these low price digital video cams? |
