There is a steel player playing some beautiful stuff right now on NPR with Bettye Lavette.

Sounds fantastic !

Oh, yeah. Great soul music. Nice steel on the CD sample from her latest CD on Willie Nelson's "Somebody Pick Up My Pieces." I'm gonna have to get me some of this - I thought this style was dead and gone in the present-day world.

I have no idea what equipment the steel player is using. Smile

Steel or no steel, she is great.

It's John Neff of the Drive By Truckers. I really like that track, it reminds me of that cut that Mavis Staples did on the Johnny Paycheck tribute with Lloyd Green

She's awesome; I saw her live last year but it was before she did the album with steel. I gotta check that out for sure...

Since we're on the subject of classic female soul singers with steel, those of you into that might check out this Candi Staton album from a few years ago. A mixture of classic country and soul tunes with Barry Beckett on keys, a great "southern soul" rhythm section, and pedal steel. And her singing will break your heart...

OK, So somebody pop open a can of breakfast for Mr Neff and bring him a laptop so he can tell us about the gig.
