Last night Connie Smith performed with all the enthusiasm and graciousness that you would expect from this true legend of Country music. What a treat to listen to some real country music for a change. Johnny was superb as usual - there aren't enough adjectives to describe Dumplin's playing. And what a true gentleman he is to boot. Connie loves steel guitar and gave Johnny plenty of opportunity to shine. She obviously knows what a tremendous talent he is. The venue was the Monroe County Fair and the crowd was small but enthusiastic. It was a homecoming of sorts for Connie since she spent her teen years about 30 miles southwest of Woodsfield. God love her, she sat at a table after the show and signed autographs and chatted with her loyal fans until the last one had gone. Suz and I drove home on cloud nine after having just enjoyed and hour and a half of the finest music you would ever want to hear. |

DAVE,
Connie is the epitome of country music.
Her beautiful voice has found a place
in the hearts of those who truly have
a natural ability to enjoy the very best
of musical genres. Thanks Dave for your
post, and thanks to Johnny for backing
Connie.

I sure do Deana. Suz and I plan to be there in the front row cheerin our hearts out. We love her to death and Johnny Cox is worth ten times the price of admission by himself.
By the way, we usually play the Beverly Eagles 3 or 4 times a year and are doing the Bev. AmLeg sometime in October. Stop in and say howdy. Our band is Family Tradition. |

Dave,
It ought to be a good show, for sure. Hey- have you ever heard of the Ohio Valley Opry? It's a traditonal country, gospel, and bluegrass show held on the 3rd Sat of every month, at the McConnelsville Opera House. The staff band is killer, and we have tons of steel. Mike Sigler is the band leader, and the other boys with him are terrific. You'd just have to go one time to believe that there is so much talent in the area. We had Herby Wallace on a few months back, and Jerry Brightman is coming on in the next few months. If you like steel, you'd like the show. Let me know if you'd like to come down, and I'll send you a couple of free tickets.
Maybe we will run into each other at the Connie Smith show. I'll be watching for 2 of her biggest fans on the front row... hehe.

Walter,
The fairgrounds are near the High School. I don't know which way you'll be coming into town, but if you are traveling south on 60, as if from Zanesville to McConnelsville, you go through town, past the Opera House, and go through a couple of red lights. Just before you get to the town park on your left- turn right. The fairgrounds is just a little piece on that road. (under a mile)You can follow the High School signs. Anyway, the Ohio Valley Opry will be doing a show at the fairgrounds on Friday night, at 7. We are still doing our regular show on the 3rd Saturday at the Opera House. I will let you know when Brightman is coming. Look for him before Christmas. See ya! Deana |

Connie is a "love", and she also doesn't shy away from testifying about her personal spirituality! |
