The seller says the serial number (203711) dates the guitar to the mid 1960's, surely this isn't the case ?

I agree. The picture of the steel (with fake boxcar) and the case are identical to the current crop Fender is selling. I would date it at 2006 - 2007. I wonder if it still has the 'made in China' sticker on the back?

Ebay image

The ebay seller's name is e.d.services. Around here, on tv commercials for cialis, viagra, e.d. stands for erectile dysfunction. I expect that this quite aptly describes the limpness of the seller.

I wish Fender had put a real string-through PU on this lap steel, instead of a Stratocaster PU with phony cover plate. That's pretty lame.

Actually my links provide convincing evidence that the seller totally does have a clue. This, to me, is proof that rather than being an innocent, he (who uses language like "Stringmaster D-8") is deliberately passing off a modern Chinese Fender as a vintage axe. Pure conscious fraud. I wouldn't even bother to try to explain to ebay why we know it is bogus.

Absolutely right - he knows exactly what it is and he's hoping some newbie will fall for it.
I had one of those for a while and got rid of it.
It's a travesty - a blight on the Fender name.

Looking at that guitar, I wondered if the hardware was any good, like for using on a homebuilt clone of a real type Fender, with ash body and a decent pickup.

Sorry...just rambling on here.. Very Happy

Look at the angle that the guitar makes with the horizontal in both photos........you could not do that if you tried.....obviously the same photo. Yes, he obviously has a clue.

The seller is obviously mistaken, AND he has posted the comments and link to Musician's Friend on his auction page, as well as admitting that it seems to be the Fender FS-52..
