I need Sam Marshall's email. I want to ask him whats being done about the abysmal quality control at Fender concerning the Fender Custom Twin 15. They are going down like Mafia hits because of poor quality. Great sounding amp, poor quality for the price. |

Kevin-please tell what kind of problems have been experienced with the Fender Twin Custom 15" I have had one for awhile now and while I don't use it for a very long duration or very often I have had no problems with it-I also know of one Pro player who has been using one as his road amp for quite some time and he tells me it has performed fine for him even having taken a fall or two in transit to gigs-I did hear that some of them had issues with tube quality-PW |

Kevin - call Scottsdale and talk to Shane Nicholas. It might take a while to get him, but he usually will handle calls like that and is Marketing Manager for the amp line. If there are specific identifiable issues I'm sure he'd want to hear about them, and he doesn't play the marketing spin game if there are problems. _________________ No chops, but great tone

Good luck, I had some issues with a Jazzmaster Ultralight a couple of years ago, and it was almost impossible to get any answers from Fender. And, when I did, they wanted me to take it in to an "authorized" service center, as they don't offer factory service. I called a local Fender service center and they had never even heard of a Jazzmaster Ultralight, but they could sure fix me up. Yeah, right. I got frustrated and sold the amp, issues and all.
Any amp manufacturer I ever dealt with could learn a lot of good lessons from Peavey, but then Peavey probably hopes they don't. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

Jim is Scottsdale there main number? I recomended this amp to a friend on the strength of it's sound. Its a great sounding amp. Three months later after home playing the thing went nuclear and started making extremely loud noise suddenly. There are others on the Forum who have had problems with the same amp. Cold solder joints, bad tubes, bad cabinets, etc. $1000 amp. Its not right. Another example of out sourcing manufacturing out of the country to another country who just doesn't care what they send to the U.S. Right now I won't recomend Fender amps to anyone until their quality issues are resolved. Thats one thing I'll say for Peavey. They care about the quality of the product that they are selling. |

I am truly sorry to hear that your friend experienced problems with the Twin Custom 15 after you had recommended it. I am sure this is frustrating.
Personally, I am an electronics design engineer, so bear with me as I am not a consumer relations professional. I contacted our consumer and technical services department about your concern regarding the quality of this product. I can assure you that they are quite dedicated to making sure our customers are happy with their purchases of Fender products.
Without a serial number, they could not supply me with any specifics regarding the particular amplifier in question. They did perform a review of service claims made against the Twin Custom 15. They assured me that they have not seen any pervasive or out-of-the-ordinary failures with this product. They have seen a couple of speakers fail and some tube problems along the way, but nothing to indicate that the design or quality of the amp is flawed.
The electronics on the Twin Custom 15, for example, has been produced reliably for nearly 20 years in the USA. Today, it continues to be manufactured in Corona, California.
As an aside, I personally torture tested a Twin Custom 15 on a special project for several months without a problem.
When problems with our products arise, we recommend the use of our vast network of Authorized Service Centers. I would also stress that FMIC Consumer Relations is easily contacted and eager to discuss our products with any and all consumers.

I think it is unfair to categorize a company because of a product that is having a problem.Especially a company the size of fender with as many products as they offer.
A company is not rated on the problems that a specific product may be having but rather HOW THEY RESPOND to it.
Give Fender a chance, they didn't get to where they are by chance. Give them the chance to respond to the issue first.
Electronics can go bad, that is a given.
And yes, I work for a top 5 company in the world in our field, and yes the quality is exceptional but at times something falls thru the cracks. We have been in business for 60 years because of how we respond to issues and clients, just like Fender.
Don't worry Sam, my 2x12 Hot Rod Deville is safe and sound next to my Session 400, and my 62 RI Jazz Bass, HWY 1 Strat and 52 RI Tele all say hi !

Sam, it is great to see you come on this form and post. We all should be honored that you took the time. Some time back a guy told me I needed to get my head out of my (Rear), concerning Fender amplifiers. Only he didn't use the word (Rear). I have recently got my head out of that terrible place, and am in the process of converting to some Fender amps. I am not a engineer, but I do have a university degree in mathematics and 4 years in "recent" university level electronics. I build a infra red volume pedal almost all the big boys use. I was awared a United States Patent on my volume pedal. Sam, I would like to talk to you about some interesting ideas in electronics that I know would sell. I have around 40 plus years in the music business, and hope I have learned a few thing. I have wanted to contact you but didn't know how to get though the receptionists and salesmen who want to act important. Sam, thank you for your response. I think that the 65 Custom Twin is an outstanding sounding amp. I just have seen too many people that have had problems with them. I hope they are cleared up now. We need you as a representative to help resolve these kind of issues. the Fender sound is #1 with me. |

I gotta be honest here, this is the first time I have ever heard of a Custom Twin 15 issue..Several players in the area use them or have owned them and I have not heard boo..
maybe I live in a Bubble...
But I have heard of another popular brand of amp ( of which I have 3 ) where all the connectors and incidental things like that have to be cleaned on a regular basis to get any sound out of them...
fair is fair...
One time I got a flat tire too..but it was only flat on the bottom ! |

Tony I suggest you look up Forum history on the Custom Twin and look up Joe Alterio's experience. Then look on Harmony Central at the reviews at the same amp. |

It was great of Sam to answer. And yes, Kevin - Scottsdale AZ is Fender's home office, although the primary US plant is in Corona CA (with some amps made there, most made in Ensenada Mexico).
And Fender really does listen...sometimes it just takes a while to get o the right body, which is why I cut to the chase, knowing some of the management guys (unfortunately, some my primary contacts have recently left - bummer, I lost a lot of inside dope... ).
Keith, I would suggest the same contact as II did to Kevin if it's amp-related stuff. Most "pitches" go through marketing to see if they are viable before R&D ever spends 4 seconds on them. _________________ No chops, but great tone
