Are there any famous or well known people outside of musicians, say actors/actress', writers, athelets etc. who play pedal steel? |

Perlowin, the question asked "outside of musicians."
You don't consider Wayne Newton or Chuck Berry musicians? |

Does this include famous people who have past on? If it does, Marty Robins and Hank Snow played steel guitar. I don't think either of them played them on stage however. |

Ron, I found your tid bit of info very thought provoking.
If Johnny Depp showed up at my band audition and he really sucked, I think I'd hire him anyway - think of all the women that would come to the gig. This begs the question - How bad would he have to be to not get the job?
or:
If you were Johnny Depp and you were mediocre, would you not want to play out because it would set you up for ridicule damaging your acting career? - Poor Johnny Depp, He's pigion holed as a famous actor.
Or:
Let's say you are Johhny Depp and you are a really good steel player too but the only acting parts they wanted you for were "a musician who plays steel guitar." Or worse they made you play steel guitar rag in every movie.
Ok that last one is out there - I'll stop. |

It is my understanding that Johnny Depp was a musician who played in bands before he was an actor. |

Yes, Jon. Mike Judge, I tell you what. Dang it, Dale. I prefer Hank to Beavis and Butthead.

I think they learned from tab.
Actually, I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who plays steel guitar and isn't a musician. Now, if you had asked about b@nj0... _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |

The actor Billy Bob Thorton plays steel. He said when he is out of town doing a flim he goes to the local bars that have a band and sets in.
Larry of the three stooges was a pro violinist before he got into acting. |
