Calvin, try a "system restore". Go to start/programs/accessories/system tools and click on "system restore". Then follow the directions to restore your computer to an earlier time. When the calendar thingy comes up just choose a date when you remember everything workin.

This is "Sonic Record Now". I know it came with some Dell desktops and maybe some other brands.

Is the program not launching or do you have the problem of the CD Burner drive not being detected?

If you have the installation program, uninstall it, restart Windows (don't skip the restart) and then reinstall it. If the previous reinstall was just over top of the existing install or if you uninstalled and then reinstalled without restarting Windows sometimes whatever was wrong will not get fixed.

Maybe it is already running but doesn't appear in the task bar for some reason.

Here are 2 ways to try that:

1. Hold the Alt key, and press Tab sevral times to switch between the programs that are running.

or

2. Ctrl-Alt-Delete will bring up the Task Manager window. At the top click on the Applications Tab. If you see the program there, click on it to highlight it, and then click on "Switch to".

Is this program supposed to launch purely from files on your (C) hard drive, or are you supposed to insert a CD first, then use the icon to start it from the CD? This might explain the misnomer "network resource."

If you don't have a CD to reinstall the program, you may be SOL and have to look for a different CD/DVD burning program.

Perhaps there is an updated version of this program (Sonic Record Now?) available from the manufacturer's web site. If so, download the appropriate version for your computer's OS and install it. It might apply the existing license from the original and fix your startup problems with the program.

Wiz, the Sonic Record Now that is provided my Dell, for example, is a special OEM version. It's not downloadable from the Vendor, or Dell, and in many cases there are no updates from Sonic for that application. The only hope is that Sonic is on a backup CD so it can be reinstalled.

Calvin,
go to this directory:

C:\Program Files\RecordNow

Right click on:

mycd.exe

Choose Properties.

In the window that appears, choose the version tab.

Let me know what the version number you have. And the company name.

I just looked up Sonic RecordNow and found this, on the Roxio web site:
Quote:
Sonic/Roxio will not provide support for RecordNow 4/5/Max and its bundled hardware/software beginning on September 15th, 2005. To continue receiving technical support, you will need to upgrade to the latest version of RecordNow .

If you own a copy of Sonic branded retail software, such as MyDVD 6, DigitalMedia Studio, RecordNow 7, BackUp MyPC 6, or DVDit 5 - 6.1, please click here to create a new Roxio MyAccount profile to receive support.

Sonic was bought out by Roxio. Your software version meets the criteria to contact Roxio support for an update. See the link in my quote, in the previous post to this one.

Wiz, Sonic owns Roxio. They bought them about 3 years ago.

If you buy a new Roxio product, many of the modules are Sonic modules.

As noted, the OEM versions are not upgradeable from Sonic/Roxio. The only option is to buy a Retail CD/DVD burning program if the OEM is bad and there is no installation CD for that program.

i liked it because it was simple and easy to use

on a side note, after the 1st of the year i am thinking hard about going to a mac computer
from what i have been reading they are less prone to problems ...i could be wrong
