I think Bill Fergusons Carter with the Lawrence are the way I would like to go next. Dale _________________ GFI SD10.Vegas 400, Oblong pedal, Rocket Scientist. |

I like the George L SS alot on my carter. It's like a 10-1 with stainless steel blades (like e66) and has more bite than a 10-1. I think the XR-16 is a bit too hot (loud) and grainy for my carter but they do sound good to many. The SS has a clear sweet tone with great separation. Very under rated pickup and worth a listen. In the end I think they all sound great.
It's like pickups for a Tele. There are so many great ones and you just have to make a choice and go for it. Sure there might be one that sounds a little different but not necessarily better. All these high end steel pickups sound great and you just have to go one or you'll go crazy nit picking. In the end,the amp can do more for your sound anyway.Just my 2 cents. |

I got george l's on mine.
I think I would only tell the differance if I had all the guitars with differant pickups in front, then I could make a better judgment, a soundfile to me is good but I like to sit behind it. |

One of the best sounding Carters I've ever had was a black D-10 with XR-16's. I've tried the 10-SS also. To many highs for my taste. I think a player has to pretty much match a pick up with a guitar. On my S-10D Magnum, I have a E66. It sounds great on this particular guitar. I've had E66's on other guitars that didn't sound to suit me. I like the BL-710, XR-16, GL 10-1, GL E66 and the GL TW p/u. I like the single coil p/u's also but don't use them because of the hum. |

Russ Hicks and Joe Turner said my Carter with TT s sounded great at the Saluda show. Also John Lemaster keeps tts on his carter most of the time, I think he changes about once a week.
