I am trying to get a fix on what works best as a pickup on a reso guitar. I';ve looked at Schatten, Fishman <sp>, Lace. I need to get some volume for live playing situations and looking for some advice.
What do y'all think?

Stephen, click on the link below for what I believe is the most recent thread on the Forum (started Sept. 23) about dobro pickups...this should get you started.
It wasn't an easy one to find in the "search" function because it was under the heading of "Music."

Everyone is different, but I have wasted lots of money on piezo crystal pickups on Dobros and Mandolins. I get the best results from the fretboard mounted Humbuckers. Its not a true accoustic sound but you don't have a feedback problem. I don't play Bluegrass, too fast music, so what I like may not suit you.

IMHO, It is hard to beat a Shure 57 about 6 inches above the coverplate and pointed down at the cone. It's not very portable but it works. Billy |

Steve -
Good to see you 'round this part of the Forum.
I'll forever be indebted to you for getting me started on my steel guitar journey back in the 90's when you lent me that ancient Fender 6-string lapsteel.

I've got 2 of the old Barcus Berry Dobro pickups and play through an old Pevey ED-100 electronic drum amplifier. Both of these are out of production but I see the BB pickup for sale often enough on the net.
When people ask what the ED stands for (silk screened onto the amp) I tell them 'Electronic Dobro.' Nothing better IMO. _________________ Tribo-Toneā¢ Bars |
