Hallo Mike or anybody else that can help !
I've been experiencing some odd occurances with my
Peavey Session 400 LTD.namely :
1.volume drops during a playing set to less than,I
would say,half for no apparent reason.
2. when the set is finished and I turn the amp off,
after about 20/30 seconds a noise emits from the amp
only described as the after effects of a really good
curry ! you all know what I mean, and as I go through the P.A. all the world and his dog looks at us with complete distain !!
If anybody (Mike ,Help !!)can come up with a sensible
remedy please let me know and I'll be (and the audience!)very greatful.

Has the amp been recapped? Sounds to me like it maybe needs a good cap job.

Not to jump in on Mike, but I had a similar problem and it was a bad zener diode on one of the 16 volt rails. The difference in voltage caused a turn off transient, very noisy, sucking type sound.
You have four voltage rails to test:
+52 VDC
-52 VDC
+16VDC
-16VDC
That a good place to start! |

My old nash 400 was acting up so I sent it in to Peavey and they fixed it fast and for very little money.

Hallo Bob,Ken and dave,
Many thanks for your prompt replies,it seems as that it is a fault that I don't think I am capable of
rectifying with my limited knowledge of electrical
circuits and I'm not sure about trusting my amp to
one of the local Greek engineers to inspect it, I believe there is a Peavey agent in Athens but that
is over a 1000 miles away which is an 8hr drive but
that will probably be the end result. It would have
been too much for me to have a simple problem but
thats life !!

| The problem with 1/2 power could be related to the "IN", "RETURN" and "POWER AMP IN" jacks. All these have shorting contacts that can and will get dirty. These should be cleaned, tested and replaced if needed. |

Thanks for that piece of info,this is something I
can do. I will check everything I can see when I
remove the amp out of the cabinet with a magnifying
glass.

way out of this is to see whats available when we
come back in July for our son's wedding.

Sorry Paul. Gas-X is a medicine to relieve gas. Works pretty good too.

Hello Paul Frank,
The symptom that you have described could be due to an input jack problem, or a defective 4558 opamp. Or, the 87478 compression chip. This "is" a Limited amp, right? |

Many thanks for your reply,yes, it is a LTD amp,I see from some of the threads that a lot of the guys
don't rate them as good as the straight 400, I have
noticed that ( sorry to the guys who answered my
plea ) that somebody has put a jack socket in the
front panel,what this does or supposed to do I have'nt a clue .As far as a 4558 opamp or the 87478
compression chip is or situated I have'nt a clue about that either.
Is it possible to get the circuit diagrams for the
amp which I could guide the local Greek engineer
with, he's not as bad as I made out!

Hallo again Mike,
I was'nt very descriptive with the jack socket that has
been added, it is directly under the 400 logo and
until I take the amp out I am in the dark !
When the camera batteries are charged I'll take some
shots and post 'em on this thread.
