I'd like to see pictures of student model guitars. I have several pics of a Carter Starter that I had here. But I'd like to see other guitar. I know that GFI has a starter model and I'm sure there are others. Specifically, I'm interested in the mechanical aspects. I'd like to see changers from several different angles, how the legs are attached, how different manufacturers hand connecting bellcranks and pedal rods etc.
I'd like to give a try at making a beginner model guitar. _________________ Gary Shepherd

I have a 70's student model with a really outdated pull/release system. It is very easy to make though and it sound really good. It came with one knee but when I bought it some part where missing. A couple of weeks ago I moved it, made some parts and hooked it up to lower 2nd and 8th strings.

Thanks Mathias.
Could you post a few more photos of that guitar? I'd especially like to see more around the changer area and how the legs attach. I had considered wood end plates but would tuning be a problem? Looks like the legs slide in and get screwed into from the side. _________________ Gary Shepherd

Tamara, I see only one knee lever. Is it a raise? Does your guitar raise and lower or is it all raise? _________________ Gary Shepherd

You are correct. One knee lever. I think it has been altered from the original. It lowers 2 and 8 instead of 4 and 8. I don't know why. It was like that when I got it. It is not what the original owners manual suggests should happen, the original says lowering the 4 and 8 would be correct. It's history is a mystery to me, except for its last (about) 15 years. I am at least the third owner.
The ABC pedals raise on the normal E9 tuning. |

Tamara,
Those are fairly common lowers on thet type guitar, and others. You already have an Eb note on your 2nd string.
Mr. Lloyd Green for one doesn't lower his 4th string, he gets that note on the 2nd string.

Bob |

thanks Bob! That explains it. Of course. I can see a good use for that. I'm always looking for that shortest route between notes. "pedals on, pedals off, 2 frets down," is becoming my theme song, unless I can find a nice slide from a to d, then it's just sweet. hee, hee. |
