They are a neat bar, but I sold mine because I felt (IMHO) my BJS bar was just as good and a lot less expencive. Everyone has their favorite, and the BJS just happens to be mine.

They differ from a steel bar in two ways.

First, they glide across the strings with no friction at all. You never realize how much friction a steel bar has until you play with a Zirc bar and feel the difference.

Second, they accentuate the attack and make the notes sound cleaner.

This is pretty subtle, but my wife, who is not a musician, can differentiante between when I use the xirc bar and when I use a steel one.

This picture is a close up of my hand from the picture used as my avatar.

It sounds a little bit mellower than a steel bar, but has just as much sustaining power.

It has an exceptionally smooth surface. Ed Packard had some electron microscope pictures that compared one to a typical steel bar. The difference was amazing at that magnification level.

If some of you zirconia bar owners come to Dallas next March, I'd sure like to try one out. I'll be around the John Coop boothe. Cool
