I am doing an article on Dick for our quarterly Gazette and am hoping someone may be able to help me with some detail. Where was he buried? I read that the Harmony Hawaiians continued as a group with Eddie Bush. Were they a group that had Dick as a guitarist or did Dick engage them? When it comes to " where are they now? " where is Sol buried? David? Andy? Eddie? The first song I learned was "In the Royal Hawaiian Hotel" and I played it while doing some thinking and reading - gee, Dick is so smooth. It was a long time before I tried the flip side " Royal Hawaiian Hotel " - if I thought the first one was smooth this one is a classic in my book. Any info. would be really appreciated as would any little stories. |

I can't answer anything for you. But I want to make sure you know about Camquat Records. They are located in Australia and on the net. I think you'll find them under Camquat Records. Big reissue of lots of Mr. Mcintyre's stuff. You may even be able to find some info there. I forget the proprietors name. But he seems quite knowledgeable to me. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |

That's Cumquatrecords.com.au
Bruce Clarke is the guy who remastered the old Hawaiian steel stuff, including Andy Iona and others. |

Thanks Edward, I never gave Bruce a thought and thanks Bill for the info. Bruce is a very busy boy but the one guy who would know is John Marsden but I do not have time to write, may ring perhaps, or hopefully Basil may see this and ring John for me - bless him. hanks again for the train of thought. |

Mac, I'm just off the 'phone to John and he suggested two things, I'll print off your thread and post it to him and he'll answer you directly, and also you could ask Malia Kuaana-Saviden (Danny's daughter)she has a good recollection of that era.
(BTW George DeFretes is buried next to Sol)
Hope all in the 'Colonies' are keeping well

Thanks Bas. Where is Sol buried? How do I get in touch with Malia? I can't seem to get any direct info. on Dick on this machine but in trying I have come across who the Harmony Hawaiians were, so that is something. Pat, I sent copies of your write up on Dorothy Lamour to Bill Sevesi and you have given that 84 year old heart a real quiver, it was top notch reading, congratulations. Thanks to all. |

This Forum is absolutely marvellous. Because I did not have any luck trying to get info. about Dick on the internet, I asked for help here. In addition to what you see, I also had an e-mail today from Les Cook saying that if I send him my e-mail address he would be able to send photos. Wowee!! But why would he ask for my address if he has already sent me a message? It would seem that b0b or some other kind soul has used discretion and has also helped. It gives a warm feeling that people so many thousands of mile away do care. A hundred thanks for every mile to everyone. |

There's the story about Dick being at a jam session at someone's home and having forgotten or lost his thumbpick, asking around to borrow one. In good-natured ribbing, everyone refused to give him one so he went into the bathroom, took a toothbruch, heated it over the gas burner on the stove, fashioned a kluged thumb pick and joined the fray!
Where did I hear that? Lorene Ruymar's book? |

you got a PM (Personal Message) or E-Mail from the Forum, that DOESN'T disclose YOUR e-mail address to the sender, OR allow attachments like pictures.
E-Mail Les your E-Mail address as he asked !! |
