I was looking at a cord chart for some Christmas music we were working on and saw a symbol of a "C+".
What does the plus sign mean? Augmented, Sustained,??
The "C+" followed a C chord in previous measure if that helps any.
Thanks, John

+ is the short cut symbol fer an Augmented chord (aug)
which means that the fifth tone of the chord (in C : G) is sharped or raised 1 half tone (G#)

going from a C to a C+ is harmonic movement towards a 4 chord (F)

Only if you're in C...
If you were in F it would be a movement of the 5 to the 1.
But you knew that...

Maybe it's the grade the teacher gave for the performance. Smile

seriously, C+ is C Augmented ( 1 , 3, #5 )

It's rare, but sometimes a minus sign is used for a minor. C- is 1, b3, 5

Sustained,?

I've heard of suspended chords, but 'sustained' chords? To play a sustained chord, does one simply strum hard and let the chord ring out? Sort of like a 'power' chord? Question
