I guess I should learn to keep my mouth shut...
A few days ago I stated my "dissatisfaction" with the current state of country music.
The man upstairs has ways of "slapping one upside the head".
On Thursday November 15, 2007 I had the privilege of attending a Silver Star Awards Ceremony at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Master Sgt. Thom Maholic, who was killed in Afghanistan in June of 2006 received the award.
It was a very moving experience that changed my life.
The details can be seen here http://www.fayobserver.com/print?id=277933&type=photos
Well, on the way home, I heard Tim McGraw's new record "If you're reading this" for the first time, and learned that Master Sgt. Maholic's name appears on the plaque that appears in the video that was made of/for this tune. That plaque is on the wall at Fort Bragg. Portions of the video include scenes from another recognition ceremony, held at Fort Bragg, where the late Master Sgt. Maholic was one of the servicemen recognized.
The tune tells the story completely.
For a few minutes it was hard to see out through my eyes...
It's hard not to get choked up as I write this.
I came away from this trip a different person.
Say a prayer for our people over there.
Thank heavens for Country Music. |
