I've got enough parts to add a few pedals to my Fender 800; however, I don't have the right pedals and rods.

My question is: apart from aesthetics, is there any reason I couldn't use the stamped pedals in addition to the pedals below? Like I said, it's only the pedals and rods that I need. I have a few stamped pedals lying around that I could use.

Another question: What's the best way to remove rust from these spare parts that I have?

If there is anyone who'd like trade some parts with me, shoot me an email. I've got a few rods that won't work for my guitar, as well as a few other parts.

I would take some WD-40 to the rust and use some steel wool to rub it out. When you get the rust off, get the pedals powder coated or painted black so they look original again. The powder coat would be more durable, but can make the pedal fit a little tighter inside the pedal bracket. Hope this helps,
Phil.

Thanks, Phillip. I'll give that a try.

I'm thinking I may do something that Jim Sliff suggested a while ago, and that is to build a completely new pedal rack assembly using newer parts. Of course, I'd keep all the cable pull assemblies. What I'd ultimately like to do is add 2 or 3 more pedals, possibly 2 pedals and a right knee.

I feel like I'm having this conversation with myself aloud Very Happy

The stamped-steel pedals have a different type of attachment at the pedal, they us a slot instead of a stud. If it were mine, I'd keep all the pedals the same rather than butchering up the pedal board with differing mounts. Spare parts (and sometimes entire pedalboards) appear occasionally on ebay, but they're usually not cheap. Sad

The easiest way out is to sell your axe, and buy one outfitted with the number pedals you desire. Or, you could just buy another (beater) guitar and part it out, selling what you don't need.

That's how I got my short-scale 400 9+2 together - one good guitar and a "donor".

Those black pedals show up SO seldom (I just missed one on eBay - got outbid, darn it!) that it's either buy two to build one, or, as I suggested, change the pedal bar and use another manufacturer's pedals/rods. The "hook" ends all sem to fit fine - it's the attachment to the pedal that varies. But I would not mix & match, and the chrome ones will not line up right (I tried to make a chrome-pedal board for my 9-pedal 400 and the chrome pedals, even if snugged right up against each other, still would be slightly offset at one end or the other.)
