Bill,

I have confidence that I'm gonna do the very best I can! I'm not a fast speed picker, or a hot lick player and I know this and don't try to be.

But yes, I have confidence that I can "add" to the music with what I feel are tastefull fills, and for turn arounds and solos I hang with the melody.

So far this has worked well for me, and this in itself has helped expand my confidence . But it also helps to know your limitations and in crucial situations don't over step them! Save the hot doggin, and trying new stuff, and new licks for jam sessions or rehearsals! Laughing

I know a lot of folks will disagree with me here, but when it really counts, and you're in doubt, play it safe, play what you know! Very Happy My opinions of course! Wink

Larry

It has been said that a good man has to know his limitations. I know mine. Jerry Byrd's advice was to always play within your ability. I follow that advice to the letter. As a result, most people who hear me think I am much better than I really am. That makes me very happy. Very Happy

Not enough, occasionally.
Just enough, most of the time.
Way too much, some of the time.

Confident enough to be on stage in front of a live audience, but fully aware of the fact that I'm not a "Top Gun".

Confident that I can not sing worth a hoot, pick guitar worth a darn, and very confident that I can't play backup or solo on the steel. But I enjoy the heck out of trying.

I don't drink or smoke and I do not have a problem with playing in front of large crowds, but I guess after 50 years on the bandstand, a guy had better get a little confidence or give it up. I play what I know and if that's not good enough, I'll pack my axe and move on.
