Link to auction on eBay.

Is this a modified Champion? Already has a bid. Looks fishy to me.

It's a modified Champion, with a new control plate and bridge assembly replacing the original assembly.
Here's my Champion for comparison purposes:

The picture is suspiciously vague. It looks like a Champion that was gutted and had aftermarket Tele parts used as replacements.
The bidder smells like a shill. There are dozens of musical instrument auctions with a buyer who has a name consisting of a consanant, 3 asterisks and another consanant (the letters vary but the 3 asterisks are always there) on Ebay and it makes me think someone has many names and is bidding up items.
There are a lot of Champions out there, I would stay away from this one.

That and the fact the seller is not mentioning the mods. They either have no clue or are not being honest to potential buyers.

The asterisks are ebays way of keeping the bidders anonymity until the end of the auction. I sometimes suspect the zero bidders of being the shills.

yes, eBay uses the asterisks now to protect bidders identity on high dollar auctions.

Another clue is to look at the seller's history of items bought and sold: 230 feedbacks, only 1 negative... but only 10 items Sold. So this person buys a lot on eBay but sells very little. And No musical instruments, just small items like CDs, shirts, shoes, etc. So this person is not knowledgeable about musical instruments, in my opinion, and probably is not trying to rip someone off by knowingly selling a cobbled guitar. On the other hand, maybe he/she is selling it for a dishonest family member or friend who does know that it's a cob job. I would say that the seller is honest, but knows nothing about vintage steel guitars.

I hadn't noticed Ebay encoding bidder's names that way before. Is that recent? Well anyway, that shows the conspiracy mentality of my mind set when it comes to buying sight unseen or out of hand guitars.
Still looks like one that I would avoid.
