Hey fellow forumites! I just recently purchased Herb Steiner's Essential Bandstand Solos, and I must say its excellent! very easy to follow (I've only been playing for 10 months!) Herb received my order on the weekend, contacted me on Monday, and it was in my mail box on Tuesday! I plan on getting some more from Herb when I get thru this one.  Thanks Herb!

Herb is one of our treasures. Not only is he a great player and teacher, he's a great scholar and historian. he may know more about the history of the steel guitar and it's players than anybody else on the planet.
I'm honored to be able to call him my friend.

Herb has some great material,My advice [for what it's worth]to any neebe is to learn to read TAB,you new guys have SO much out there to help you,take advantage of it,some of the OLD geezers like myself had to learn things by spending countless hours picking licks etc off of tapes and records,We did'nt have anything like this WONDERFUL steel guitar forum,to find help.Not only Herb Stiener,but Herb Remington,Bobbe,Scottys,Herby Wallace,Doug,and many more have great teaching aids,you new guys to the steel,if you are 20 or 60,if you take advantage of all this knowledge,and are NOT too lazy to PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE,then PRACTICE some more,you WILL learn to play,don't you know.

| Herb's courses are top notch and are great to learn from. I also recommend anyone startin out to learn to read tab. There's so many ways that a lick or phrase can be played and tablature gives you a little head start. |

Andy,you're right,It is VERY important to read tab,even experienced players can benefit,it's easy to take a tabbed arrangment,then add or delete parts and make it your own,I saw something the other day about the old saying[I don't read enough music to hurt my playing]I know most people KNOW that's a joke,EVERY piece of musical knowledge is valuable.When I was about ten and wanted to learn to play the guitar[sixstring]I ordered a course through the mail[The U.S.School of Music]a wonderful course.On my summer vacation I worked on that thing 12 to 14 hours a day,to learn to sight read on guitar,never knowing twenty years down the road how it would pay off,I had a gig for awhile in a club that featured floor shows,The show girls[not barroom strippers]would always have their music,and you HAD to play it the way it was written.Also played a lot of jobs in the 60's and 70's that you needed to read sheet music,All you new guys at least learn to read tab,you will be glad you did,don't you know.

A little side note,I see a lot of you talk about C6th but are wary of it,[IMO only I found it easeier than E9TH]Any way go to Herb's site,click on instrutional material,scroll down to Rancho Rhythem Roundup,Great tab book and rhythum tracks for some great C6th tunes[you do need to read tab]No Herb had nothing to do with me posting this,I just LOVE the C6th tuning and love to promote it,don't you know.

I bought that one from Herb at Scotty's when it first came out. I wasn't pickin' at the time, but knew I'd want it someday. I'm happy to say that day has come. I'm back at it again.
