years ago a friend had two 1937ish bakelite ricks in perfect shape...one 6-string, one 7-string..the son of a gun 'gave' me the 6-string..just to aggravate me...i'm thinking of building a 7-string...are there any good 7-string pickups available?

I have been using the DiMarzio DP702 7 string bridge pick-ups, 5 of them so far, and I like them. They are a humbucker type. I've been getting them from a music store that's always on Ebay, for 69 bucks. Do an ebay search for 7 string guitar pickups, and you will likely find them, and other brands.

If you can find an 8-str. p/u with a bar~magnet, similar or even a Geo. L. 10-str. 10–1 model, that would work very well! I have a friend who plays a D–7 Sho-Bud on which he uses the 10–1 and he did the same on his T–7 Rickenbacker Console!

Yeah, that's right, a blade type pickup leaves it up to you for how many strings you want. I haven't used one yet. Rick Aiello's new pickup is a blade type.

Bill; And contrary to what some might think, just because it's a 10-str. p/u doesn't necessrily mean that it's way to long for a lesser number of strings! This is due to the fact that fewer strings most likely also means that the strings are spaced wider than a 10-str. guitar, so; a large portion of the magnets is still under the strings.

Jason Lollar makes a repro 7-string "racetrack" pickup for the Gibson Console Grande, I have one & it sounds great. Also he has some other rail-style pickups.

www.lollarguitars.com I believe.
