How do you cut the groove in the pull rod.

You can use a lathe, or if that's not available, a Dremel tool with a cutoff blade will do a nice groove too. If you're concerned only with functionality, you could also just drill a small hole in the rod, and then use a tiny hairpin-type clip (along with a flatwasher).

Thanks for your reply concerning the pull rods. How do you know how much to bend the rod? How deep do you go in the rod?

It seems that the simplest solution is to order rods from Emmons or an Emmons dealer. I don't know another source for 7/64" rods and if you use the original parts the guitar remains original without a mixture of parts. If you need help getting Emmons parts I am willing to help you.
