My project is coming along. I have the fretboard roughed out and wanted some suggestions about the end. I could just leave it straight but thought about something scrolled like a mandolin, clipping the corners to an angle, or shaping like a shallow arrow.
As far as attaching it to the neck, glue, screw, or glue and screw?
thanks, ron |

I use double sided tape to hold them on. If it ever needs to removed, for re-finish etc, or replacement, it makes things easier. |

I have used screws with a plexi fretboard.
I use glue with the rosewood fretboards. if gluing use lots of clamps. and cover the ends so they cannot leave a mark.
I have used double sided (carpet) and that works well too. the advantage there is it is reversible.
I tend to dislike adhesives, particularly pressure sensitive tape; it degenerates into a gooey mess, looses it's adhesion, and the object afixed can migrate. |

I've only ever glued wooden fretboards...
My 2 electric lap-steels have plastic fretboards, one is glued, the other screwed on.
IMhO screws can spoil the look on some guitars, on some designs the screws look "right".
For the end, how about a Knutsen/Hilo-style "swoop"?
I'd go for either a curved or angular design based on the look of the rest of the guitar.
What's your fretboard material?
Can you post any pics of the body shape?
I'm very interested in seeing your project's progress... |

For the ones I've done that had a separate / non integrated fretboard, I've glued them down with regular old Tightbond. Though I should note those were also wood fretboards.
To keep the board from slipping around, I use a couple small screws in an empty dot inlay hole to index the board. Once done, I pull the screws and finish the inlay.
A pic may help visualize it better.

The body is a Silvertone project I bought on Ebay made of poplar. The fretboard is 1/4" walnut. I will take a pic as soon as I dremel the lines and glue the maple frets in. I decided to point the end 120 degrees.
