I have been religiously reading the forum since I acquired a Fender 8 string and have been trying to learn to play it. One of the forum members suggested I purchase a course from Frenchy in Belen, and I did.He wrote out tunings for the 8 string using a 10 string course(E9). I have been plugging away, and really got some good sounds, but last night I had a revelation. My friend, who died last year was a steel player, and we worked together in several bands. Last week, his widow brought her truck in for repairs, and of course we talked about old times, and I told her about my new project, wishing her husband was around to help. She then brought me his Sho-Bud, and told me to play it. I took it home, set it up and tuned it, and wow! I didn't change my amp settings, and after hitting a group, I had to lower the pedal. This thing really has a lot of power(the pickup is huge), and the sustain is unbelievable. This is what a real guitar sounds like. I am really going to enjoy learning to play this guitar. |

Robbie, I'm in Silver City, and I'll be glad to post pictures after I clean it. I believe the guitar has been sitting for 10 or 12 years, and is filthy. I stopped by the music store today and bought some of the D'Addario cleaner and polish. I am thinking I could use something like mag wheel cleaner/polish on the metal. Frenchy is sending me some new strings. The guitar is a LDG with a green finish and gold accents. I remember when Ted first got it, and it really looked great under the lights, and of course sounded great out of his old twin. |

Bill,
Use "Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish" on the metal parts.
PS: It's not recommended for gold plating. |

I finally got Ted's guitar cleaned up, and put some new strings on it.I took the pad and the tuners out to clean and wax, and the green under the pad is really beautiful, I guess this just naturally fades to a beautiful golden brown. |

I guess our crow express internet service doesn't like the wind. I can't seem to get a picture in here. I even followed b0b's directions. |

I couldn't get my pictures to post to Bill Ford, but Bill Moore(the one who really can play the steel), resized them for me. I think he's also a photographer.
I'll bet it works this time! |
