Just wanted to say "hey" to everyone here as I'm new to the forum. I had hoped to meet some of you folks at Joliet, but I got called in to work on Thurs and Fri, so hopefully next year.
I know some of you folks from reso-nation and IGS (where I post as Novalis and steam-powered). Anyway, glad to be here. I plan on getting me an inexpensive 6-string lap steel soon as I've fallen in love with C6 tuning (I've had my dobro in C6 for about a month). Since I've been lurking here for over a year, I figured it was time to pay up and join the Steel Guitar Forum. |

Welcome aboard. If you've been lurking awhile you no doubt already know that you can learn an awful lot here with the search function. And what you can't find by searching you can usually get with a well worded post. I've gotten alot from the forum. And I recommend it often. _________________ Amor vincit omnia |

Welcome Jordan, you picked a good tuning to start out with as there's tons of instructional matieral for it. Good luck with it. |

Yeah Gordon, welcome to the steel guitar maelstrom
You will find that C6th/C13th is the best all-around tuning there is, no matter what type of music you like. Of course other tunings can work nice for certain types of music.
This place has more answers (and opinions than anywhere, on the steel guitar.
Best Regards BILL |

Welcome Jordan, from another Ill. steeler. I'm pretty much in your neck-of-the-woods, too. I have both a dobro, and a lapsteel. The dobro I tune to "G". The lapsteel I tune to what I call a "C6add9." (from top to bottom: G,E,C,A,F,D) It allows me to play the C,F,C6,Am,and Dm, chords in one position. Move up two frets, and you have the G, and Em, chords. It's an interesting tuning once you get used to it.
Good luck with your steeling, and have fun! |
