I use my 500 in a stationary location.
Nobody fools with it or wants to borrow it !
As a tone chaser, my conclusion on the Peavey's,
is each model has it's own unique character.
All good to me. EQ'ing them is the secret, I think.
Relatively new to electrified music, I've found multiple settings equally satisfying.
I've got 500, 400, NV 400 and play on friends Peavey's, too.
I wouldn't pass up a deal on a 500 if you can afford to put it in your collection.
Also, both the 500 and the various 400's respond to modern electrical component upgrades to better quality parts available now that weren't when they were originally manufactured.
No doubt if you invest in them from a reputable amp mechanic or Peavey(they're a great repair shop), the amp will be around another 20-30 years with half way decent treatment.
Because of affordability of Peavey amps,
its easy to own more than one.
Get one of each. _________________ Joe in LA
