Ken, It is imperitive that you get a copy of Dicky Overbey's "HonkyTonkMemories.com"
Listen to his version of "Farewell Party. I think it is a brilliant interpretation of Jimmy Day's modulation that he played on Johnny Bush's version. Of equal value of study is Paul Franklin Jr. on Alan Jackson's version. This song is one of the first that I learned..

That recording should be a must for every new steel guitar player to hear. The feeling is awesome. Johnny's singing must have really inspired Jimmy and he nailed it. This is one of my all time favorite E9th solos. I played this tune with Jimmy many times as an instrumental and it always got to me. I miss you Jimmy. Bobby BTW Herb Steiner played the tune with Johnny Bush at the ISGC in St. Louis year and nailed Jimmy's solo also. Good job Herb. |

Jimmy always put a part of himself in his solos, and that is the reason he will never be forgotten. Jody. |

All the above mentioned cuts are wonderful.1st class for sure. But I wish you could hear Tommy White play it. He did it live on the Opry no less. Twice in one nite. Each take is a little different. But still my favorites.Paul Franklin even made mention of how great and how moving it was........bb |
