| From another drummer turned steeler....you're gonna have a ball! Definately get with a teacher. Jeff Newman's courses are great, but you need someone at hand to make sure you don't get into bad habits up front. I was fortunate enough to get to spend time in Jeff's week long schools. Best money spent getting started. I sure miss that man! |

I was looking at that one as well. I'm unsure if I want to play pedal steel guitar or start off on non-pedal steel. I really love that classic Herb Remington style.
Maybe next year after I get a little better on b**jo.

James,some of the other guys mentioned playing with other players,good advise,It will take a little while learning the basics,but when you learn enough to play with some one,maybe you have a friend that could play rhythum guitar for you.when you get able to play with a band,[don't have to be a hot pro band]You will learn more in a month playing with them,than a year alone at home by yourself.Don't you know.

| WELCOME TO THE BEGINING OF THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE. I STARTED PLAYING IN 1983 NON PEDALS. 6 MONTHS AFTER NON PEDALS I BOUGHT A SHO BUD MAVERICK PEDAL STEEL GUITAR. IT WORKED OKAY FOR ME, THE MAVERICK IS SORT OF LIMITED. I WOULD, IF I WAS STARTING, WOULD BUY THE CARTER STARTER. IT WOULD BE YOUR BEST CHOICE. I BELIEVE IT IS A 3 PEDAL 4 KNEE SET UP. Thanks again everyone for your input! I am looking at a standard late model Sierra that Bobby Seymour's has for sale. I just have to figure out if I want to spend the money on it or not. I think it will be around $1450.00 shipped, +tax.
I don't really know much about Sierra. The salesman on the phone said that it was possibly from the 90's, but he wasn't sure of exactly when. Are these good quality guitars and worth the money?

My guess is that given the serial number, someone on here would have a good idea as to the vintage of that Sierra.
Don't do a sight-unsceen deal if you can possibly avoid it. Pictures are one thing, the feel of the pedal action, tuning keys, etc. is something you can't sense remotely.

Thanks everyone for your help again. I bought the Sierra from Bobby. I figured that it would be a long while before I get to go and actually look at anything in person. I guess I got a little impatient but I feel like I can trust Bobby and that he will stand behind the things that he sells. I also bought a couple of steel books today, so hopefully I will be playing here in the next week or so!
